HODGE, William - Passed away suddenly at his home in Glenwood on November 4, 2005, Mr. William Hodge, age 71 years. Mr. Hodge is predeceased by his wife, Mary (2005) and brother, Dan. Left with very fond and loving memories are his son, Ernest and Dianne of Brooklin, ON, Rick and Debbie of Appleton; daughter, Debbie and Tony John of Glenwood, Carol Hodge of Glenwood; sister, Cora and Reg Cassidy of Sheddiac, NB, Dulsey and Willis Hancock of Roddickton, NL, Gladys and Tom Cooper of St. Anthony, NL; grandchildren, Jeff, Toni Marie, Justin, Jake, Tiffany, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Noah, Kyle, Tristan; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Cremation was held on November 6th at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Donations may be made to the Gander and Area SPCA, 36 Memorial Drive, Gander, NL, A1V 1A2. SPURRELL, Claude Yetman - Passed peacefully away on November 4, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Claude Yetman Spurrell (Merchant Navy Veteran) of Pool's Island, age 90 years. Predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Eileen Mary Spurrell (nee Betteridge). Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his son, Martin (Mary) of Linford, England; daughters, Janette Stangoa (David) and Claudette Short (Frederick) of Grays, England; sisters, Marion Quinton (Harold deceased) and Joyce Long (Bill) of Florida, USA; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a large circle of friends. Funeral service was held on November 7th at St. James Anglican Church, Pool's Island with Rev. Robin Trevors officiating, with Act of Remembrance read by Major Paul Batstone. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Pool's Island. Donations in his memory may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Pool's Island. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove-Musgrave Harbour.

HOUNSELL, Wilhelmina - Passed peacefully away on November 6, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Wilhelmina Hounsell of Pound cove, age 86 years. Predeceased by her husband, Clifton Hounsell; sisters, Sybil Roberts, Geraldine Howell, Wilhelmina Gaulton; brothers, Peter Gaulton, Reginald Gaulton, Norman Gaulton, Lewis Gaulton, Stewart Gaulton; granddaughter, Patsy Pye; sons-in-law, Jethro Stokes, Cyril Vincent, daughter-in-law, Edie Hounsell. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons, Clyde (Linda) of Pound Cove, Caleb (Shirley) of Pool's Island, Lewis (Eileen) of Grande Prairie, AB, Clifton Jr. (Bessie) of St. Mary's, ON, Glen (Cathy) of Pound Cove; daughters, Joan Vincent (Ammon) of Templeman, Beatrice Stagg (Clyde) of Lumsden, Rita Stokes of Deadman's Bay; brother, Roland Gaulton of Otterbury Manor, Wesleyville, Madeline Henry of Florida, USA; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on November 8th at St. Thomas United Church, Pound Cove with Rev. Miriam Bowlby officiating. Interment followed at the United Cemetery, Pound Cove. FELTHAM, Hazel - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hazel Feltham announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on November 8, 2005 at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband, Nathan (1960). Leaving to mourn with special memories are her daughter, Sandra (Rex) Colbourne, Northern Arm, with whom she resided and her son, Emerson of Hubbards, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Mark, Marianne and Melissa Colbourne and Hilary Feltham; and one great-grandson, Trent Colbourne; sister, Emma Humphries, St. John's; sister-in-law, Eva McClean, Bathurst, N.B. and brother-in-law, Charles Howse, Corner Brook; also very special nieces, nephews and friends. Reverend Linda Burt and Ms. Vera Abbott, M.T., officiated at the funeral service held at Emmanuel United Church, Gambo on November 11th. Interment was at the U.C. Cemetery, Gambo. Pallbearers were nephews, Ken Reid and Bernard Mills, great-nephew, Andrew Pitcher, grandson, Mark Colbourne and friends, Wilson Bridger and Harold Reid.

SCOTT, Shirley Roberta - 76, of Coldbrook, Kings County, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at home. Born in Blomidon, she was a daughter of Myrtle ( Rogers) Coffil, Wolfville and the late Robert Coffil. She was District Sales Manager for Sears Canada in Eastern Newfoundland, retiring in 1982. She was past president of the Cornwallis District New Horizons Seniors Group in Canning and was an active member of F.S.NA. Orchard Valley Branch. She enjoyed bingo, reading, a good game of cards, especially cribbage and 45's and spending time at the cottage in Medford. She is survived by three daughters, Petty Officer (Rt'd) Barbara Simmons, Jentville; Elizabeth Bernard (Butch Leighton), Canning; Susan Scott, Coldbrook; a son, Robert (Christine), Lantz; a sister, Dorothy Coffill, Port Elgin, Ontario; a brother, Robert (Joyce), Canning, four grandchildren, Shannon, Kyle, Kim and Scott; two great-grandchildren, Ryley and Dylan; nieces and nephews. In 1946, she was married to her husband, William Scott in the United Church Manse in Kentville. She was predeceased by her husband, William; an infant son, Bruce and an infant brother. Funeral service was held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 with Reverend Doctor Dennis Veinotte and Reverend Doctor M.R. Cherry officiating. Burial will take place in the Pereau Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Nova Scotia.

DYKE, Mervin Reginald - Passed away suddenly at the Health Science Complex, St. John's on November 19, 2005, Mervin Reginald Dyke of Gambo, age 50 years. Mervin was loved and respected by both family and friends and will be sadly missed, but forever remembered. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Reginald and Esther (nee Glover) Dyke; three brothers, Sterling (Patsy) of Gambo, Clyde (Hilda) of Gambo and Arthur; two sisters, Anne (John Morrissey) of Corner Brook and Daphne (Steve Moss) of Sudbury, ON. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Frances with children, Yvonne (Sean) of Fredericton, NB, Stephen (Crystal) of Toronto, ON and Joanne. He also leaves to mourn two brothers, Kenneth (Marie) of Hare Bay and George (Clara) of Gambo; two sisters, Lucy (Alex Green deceased) of Gambo, June (Lionel Oram) of Dover; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nathaniel and Elsie Ward of Gambo; brother-in-law, Clarence (Joyce) of Gambo, sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Dennis) Duffett of Scarborough, ON and Anne (Nathan) Rogers of Scarborough, ON. Funeral service was held on November 23rd at the Salvation Army Citadel, Gambo. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Pritchett's Funeral Home, Gambo.

CROKE, John Patrick - It is with saddened hearts that the family of John Croke, retired teacher, age 54, announce his sudden passing at his residence at St. Brendan's on November 19, 2005. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Rita Croke. Left to forever cherish their wonderful memories are his loving wife and best friend, Joan; adored daughters, Renee, Seattle, Rita and Jillian, St. John's; sisters, Theresa King (Joe), Placentia, Loretta Ennis (Jim), Placentia, Hilda Murphy (Steve), Keels, Angela Croke (Jerome), St. John's, Anita Kelly (John), St. Brendan's; brother, Tom Croke (Marcella), St. John's, mother-in-law, Agnes Walsh, St. Brendan's; sisters-in-law, Alice Linney (Andy), Kingston, Carmel Yeager (Bruce), Palm Springs, Sandra White (Albert), CBS; brothers-in-law, Ed Walsh (Shirley), St. John's, Gerry Walsh (Helen), St. Brendan's, Glen Walsh (Florence), Paradise; uncles, Joseph Croke and John Mackey, St. John's; aunts, Angela Fleming and Annie Whalen, St. John's, Catherine Croke, Toronto; a large number of nieces and nephews and many friends, especially his cabin buddies. MERCER, Sadie - Passed peacefully away on November 22, 2005 at the Health Science Centre, St. John's, Sadie Mercer of Brookfield, age 77 years. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Sarah Sturge; sister, Louise (Victoria) Sturge; brothers, Cyril Thomas Maxwell, Cator and Phillip. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Wilfred; sons, Thomas (Hazel) of Churchill Falls, William (Irene) of Hamilton, ON; Leonard (Betty-Lou) of Wesleyville, Phillip (Doris) of Newtown, Roland (Bonnie) of Brookfield; daughters, Sarah Mainprize (Rick) of Wellon, ON, Beatrice Dionnie (Claude) of Hamilton, ON, Victoria Stokes (Gordon) of Deadman's Bay, Verna Norris (Sterling) of Brookfield; brother, William Sturge (Emma) of Brookfield; sister, Victoria Gates (Duncan) of Brookfield; sisters-in-law, Juliana Sturge of Brookfield, Jemina Stokes of Badger's Quay; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. SQUIRE, Baxter - Passed peacefully away on November 24, 2005 at Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista, Baxter Squire of Eastport, age 65 years. Predeceased by his parents, Avalon and Ann Squire; sisters, Blanche and Mary; and brother, Ford. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Glenys; his four daughters, Robyn of Clarenville, Kelly (Boyd) of Happy Adventure, Carol Ann of Lower Sackville, Vickie (Calvin) of Gander; his four grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Samantha and Jackson; and a very large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was held on November 27, 2005 at Holy Cross Church, Eastport. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Eastport. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Squire's Funeral Home, Eastport.

KING, Florence - Passed peacefully away at G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on November 28, 2005, Florence King of Badger's Quay, age 64 years. Predeceased by her husband, Jack King; parents, Roland and Ina Hann, infant brother, Wesley Hann. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her four sons, Terry (Lillian) of Badger's Quay, Roy (Sherry) of Badger's Quay, Jack (Peggy) of Wesleyville, Dean of Badger's Quay; daughter, Deanna Burry (Brian) of Badger's Quay, brother, Leslie Hann (Marie) of Badger's Quay; sister, Maisie Whalen (Dave) of Bauline, Pouch Cove; mother-in-law, Drucilla King, residing at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay; 10 grandchildren; special friend, Otto Burry; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. NORMAN, Alicia Lee - Passed suddenly away at Toronto Hospital for Sick Children on November 28, 2005, age 9 years and 3 months. Left to treasure precious memories are her mom, Sherry; brothers, Michael and Jordan; Nan and Pop LeGrow (Phyllis and Mark), aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates at Gander Academy and many, many friends. A service of thanksgiving and celebration for the life of Alicia was held at Fraser Road United Church, Gander, on December 2, 2005. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home. BROWN, Elizabeth Mary - Passed away suddenly at her home in Hare Bay on November 30, 2005. Predeceased by her parents, Lester and Net (Kelloway) Sturge; husband, Howard; and son, Wally Collins. Left to mourn son, Jed Collins (Corinne); daughters, Coreen Keeping (Ford), Maureen Stone (Mike) and Debbie Parsons (Glen); stepson, Bill Brown; daughter-in-law, Mary Collins; grandchildren, Terri Lynn, Clayton, Beth, Megan, Katie, Chesley and Brandon; sister, Sadie Janes (Mervin); brother, George Sturge (Myrtle); special friend, Allan Pritchett; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. OSMOND, Vincent Jones - Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Home, Gander on November 30, 2005, Vincent Jones Osmond of Gambo, age 80 years. Predeceased by mother and father, Benjamin and Hettie (nee Ford) Osmond; two sisters, Ellen Goulding and Frances Keats. Left to mourn his wife, Pearl (nee Sturge); children, Wayne (Kevin) Carbonear, Kimberly (Kevin A.) Pritchett, Gambo; one brother, Cecil (Irene), Gander; three sisters, Doris Horlick, Gambo, Elva Pritchett, Gambo, Phyllis (Baxter) Pritchett, Gambo; grandchildren, Sarah, Benjamin, Monica and Emily Ann Pritchett. PHILPOTT, James Michael - Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on November 30, 2005, James Michael Philpott, age 85 years. Predeceased by parents, Ellen and James Philpott; sisters, Julia and Josephine; brothers-in-law, Robert Philpott, Thomas Bartlett and Bernard Hedderson. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Sarah; sons, Gerard (Mary) of Mount Pearl, Joe (Carol) of Gander, David (Corrine) of Plate Cove, Fabian (Joanne) of St. John's and Jim (Mary) of Gander; daughters, Cecilia (Edwin Watton) of Gander and Marina (Terry Tibbs) of Gander; grandchildren, Linda, Stephen, Kimberley, David, Amanda, Michael, Maria, Brian, Daniel and Allison; great-grandchild, Caleb; brother, Joseph of Trepassey; sisters, Henriettia of St. John's, Sister Rosarii of Gander, Sister Cecilia of St. John's, and Frances of St. John's, brother-in-law, Patrick Philpott of Etobicoke. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons, Ernest (Typhena), Clyde (Doreen), Earl (Alfreda), Malcolm (Sarah), all of Trinity, Austin (Madonna) of Fort McMurray, AB, Kevin (Sue-Ann) of Ottawa, ON; daughters, Marie (Chesley Wiseman) of Trinity, Selena (Charles Bourne) of Toronto, ON, Glenys (Darius Brown) of Trinity, Madeline (Martin Brown) of Ontario and Maude (Ian Stewart); brother, Robert Rogers (Emma) of Wareham; brother-in-law, Thomas Pickett of Glovertown; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
