ROGERS, Zacchaeus Roland
Passed peacefully away on May 1, 2008 at Brookfield Hospital, Zacchaeus Roland Rogers, age 74 years of Trinity, Bonavista Bay. Predeceased by his mother, Rachel; stepfather, Edwin Feltham and father, Albert Rogers. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Rachel; sons, Frank (Gloria) of Pickering, ON, Roland (Carol) of St. John’s, Grant (Trudy) of Trinity, Bonavista Bay, John (Trina) of Trinity, Bonavista Bay; brothers, Albert Rogers (Patsy) of Eastport, George Feltham (Christine) of Eastport; sisters, Rita Stockley of Elliston, NL, Sarah (Mac Butt) of Brampton, ON; grandchildren, Derek, Janine, Stanley (Deanne), Laura, Alicia, Hayley, Lyndon and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Derek and Hunter; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Funeral service was held on May 4th at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Trinity, Bonavista Bay with Rev. Wayne Short officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Trinity, Bonavista Bay. Turner, Alphonsus -
Passed peacefully away on May 3, 2008 at St. Patrick's Mercy home, Alphonsus Turner of St. Brendan's, Bonavista Bay in his 84th year. He was predeceased by wife, Margaret (nee Brown), parents, William and Martina; brothers, Louis, Abraham, Dennis and sisters, Nellie (Mackey), Kathleen (Broderick, Ann (Ricketts), Mary (Canning) and Margaret (Ricketts). Left to mourn sister-law, Mary Ann Turner of Buchans, one special cousin, Mary Ann Hogan in Toronto; thirty-six nieces and nephews, and a large circle of relatives and friends. The family acknowledges with deep appreciation the care that was given for three years by the staff of Baywatch Manor in Glovertown and in recent months by the staff of James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander; the Health Science Complex, Hoyles Escasoni, and St. Patrick's Mercy Homes in St. John's. Funeral mass took place Tuesday, May 6 th from St. Gabriel's Church, St. Brendan's, followed by interment at St. Gabriel's Catholic Cemetery. STOKES, James
Passed peacefully away on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex in St. John’s, James Stokes of Deadman’s Bay at 77 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Gladys Stokes; grandchildren, Cory, Melissa and Roger Stokes; sisters, Annie Chaulk and Maud Chaulk; brother, Wallace Stokes; brothers-in-law, Raymond Chaulk and Richard Chaulk. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife, Vera; sons, Wayne of St. John’s, Wilson (Melynda) of Gander, Danny (Cathy) of St. John’s; daughters, Pattie (Mark Damien) of Kanada, Quebec, Velma of St. John’s, Elaine (Mickie Handregan) of Maddox Cove; brother, Elmore (Ruby) of Deadman’s Bay; sister, Verna (Winston Hayward) of Deadman’s Bay; sister-in-law, Una Stokes of Gander Bay; grandchildren, Christina and Jamie Stokes, Jessica and Bianca Stokes, Natasha Damien, Wilson and April Stokes, Cindy Stokes and step-grandchildren, Maria Tremblett and Gord Jordon; five great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at the United Church, Deadman’s Bay on May 8th with Majors Donna and Barry Anstey officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Deadman’s Bay. Passed peacefully away on May 7th, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Susanna May Mercer, age 57 years. Predeceased by sister, Ruth Bull. Left with loving memories are sons, Todd Hunter of Vancouver, BC, Scott Hunter of Toronto, ON, daughters, Beryl (Morley) Brenton of Benton, Carla (Dennis) Snow; brothers, Philip (Joan) Bull of Sweet Bay, Clifford (Erma) Bull of Sandringham, Ronald (Linda) Bull of Gambo; sisters, Avis (Jack) Brown of Sandy Cove, Gladys (Sam) Pottle of Goose Bay, Gloria (Albert) Hiscock of Labrador City, Christine (Brian) Michelin of North West River, Beatrice (Clyde) Stevens of Goose Bay, Doreen (Mark) Brown of Goose Bay; grandchildren, Garret Hunter, Cody Hunter, Marlene Brown, Sammie Joe Hunter, Michael Brown, Anissa Johns, Shenikah Snow. SHEPPARD, Stella (Bennett)
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Extendicare Van Daele Nursing Home at the age of 78 years, Stella Sheppard (Bennett). Daughter of the late Bert and Clarina Bennet of Fogo, NL; beloved wife of John (Jack) Sheppard for 48 years; loving mother of Russell, Raymond (Sherry) and Kelly Thomas (Rob); special grandma to Emily, Tristan and Blair; sister of Audrey Baker (Vic) of Barrie, ON. Stella will be fondly remember by her many nieces; nephews, family and friends in Newfoundland and Ontario. Fiends called at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre ( 492 Wellington Street, East, Sault Ste. Marie, ON on May 13th. A funeral service was held at Holy Trinity Church on May 14th– Rev. Stephen Blackmore officiated. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated by the family. Passed peacefully away Monday, May 12, 2008 at her residence in Gander, Bernadette Shea, aged 79 years. Predeceased by her husband, Leo Cosmas; daughter, Elaine. Passed peacefully away on May 14th, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Lori Slaney, age 48 years. Predeceased by her father, Jack Butt. Left with loving memories are her husband, Con Jr., sons, Andrew and Brian of Gander, mother, Ruby Butt of Gander, brothers, Jack (Sandra) Butt of Brussels, Belgium., Terry (Sandra) Butt of St. John's, Craig (Paula) of Portugal Cove; sister, Florence (Jim) Patterson of Moncton, mother and father-in-law, Con Sr. (Barney) Slaney of Gander; sister-in-laws, Sandra (Harold) Hillier of Gander, Valda (Ross) Stryde of Lewisporte, Joan (Wayne) Dwyer of Gambo, Carol Ann (Laurie) Crowe of Paradise; brother-in-laws, Pat (Joan) Slaney of Gander, Tony (Donna) Slaney of Springdale. BARROW, Ada
Passed peacefully away on May 16, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Ada Barrow, age 88. Predeceased by husband, Edward; two infant daughters; son, Fred; grandsons, Dale and David. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons, Bram (Sonja), Les (Bessie), Ralph, Derrick (Judy), Eddie (Luanne); daughters, Geraldine (Edison), Patsy (Chris), Janet (Claude), Ruby (Leslie); daughter-in-law, Norma; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held at the Salvation Army, Gambo, on May 20th by the family. Interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Gambo by Majors Darryl and Cathy Simms. GOULDING, Ralph
Passed peacefully away on May 17, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Ralph Goulding, aged 89 years. Predeceased by two infant children. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Winnie; sons, Jesse (Olive), Dorman (charlotte), Baxter (Triffie), Melvin (Peggy), Sterling (Edith), Otto (Emmie), Aubrey (Carol-Ann); daughters, Louise (Morgan), Muriel, Wilhelmina, Gaye (Glen); twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren, also a large circle of relatives and friends. FLYNN, Mr. Beaton -
Passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Brookfield Hospital, Mr. Beaton Flynn of Musgrave Harbour, age 72 years. Predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Mildred; brother, Arthur. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Rosemarie of 51 years; four daughters, Elaine Flynn (Warrick) of Musgrave Harbour, Marilyn Faulkner (Ross) of Aspen Cove, Colleen Mouland (Wallace) of Musgrave Harbour, Angela Mouland (Jamie) of Musgrave Harbour; brother, Harold(Leah) of Musgrave Harbour; four sisters, Jean Goodyear, Joyce Guy, Blanche Pope (Raymond), Melba Pardy (Winston) all of Musgrave Harbour; six grandchildren, Jamie, Laurie, Joey, Janelle, Tyson, Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Allana and Amber; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. BURRY, Edna M. –
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Edna M. Burry, aged 77 years. Predeceased by her husband, Levi Burry. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons, Carl (Phyllis) of Gander, NL and Selwyn (Nanci) of Lewisporte, NL; grandchildren, Kyley, Shannon, Ian, Tina, Corryn and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Liam and Avery; brother, Melvin (Verlie) Douglas 0f Kingston, ON and sisters, Bernice (Alphaeus) Mehaney of Herring Neck, NL and Flora (Allan) Curry of Moncton, NB. Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Henry Oldford of Burnside. Leaving to mourn, wife, Ena (Hapgood); children, Ford (Edna) of Gander and Sharon (Azariah Oram) of Caplin Cove; grandchildren, Perry Oldford (Arlene Osmond), Grande Prairie, AB, and Mark Oldford, Gander; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Oldford, Grande Prairie, AB; sister, Margaret Matthews, Dartmouth, NS, plus many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Burnside, May 28th at 2:30 P.M. Interment at St. Alban’s Anglican Cemetery, Burnside, Rev. Paul Thoms officiated.

HOLLOWAY, Anne Catherine
Passed peacefully away on May 28, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Anne Catherine Holloway, age 79 years. Predeceased by her common-law partner, Johnny Conners; parents, William and Mary Ellen Holloway. Left with loving memories are her brother, Alphonsus Holloway, Gander; nephews, Sid (Monica) Holloway, gander, Bill Holloway, Cornwall, ON, Michael Holloway, gander; nieces, Barbara (Mike) Walbourne, Gander, Mary (Ray) Cardinal, ON. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass June 2nd from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Interment All Saints Cemetery. WILCOX, Leslie
Passed peacefully on May 29, 2008 to join his wife, Janet, at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander. Les, aged 89 years, a Gander pioneer. Left to celebrate his long and blessed life is daughter, Muriel (Herb Moorcroft) of Gander; granddaughter, Lesley Ann (Dwayne Andrews) of Sydney, NS; great-grandson, David Andrews; granddaughter, Kelly (Scott Richardson) of Ottawa, ON; great-grandson, Ian Richardson and great-granddaughter, Meredith Richardson. There is also left son, Fred (Sandra) of St. John's; granddaughter, Allison (Doug Johnson) of Burnaby, BC; three week old great-granddaughter, Alexandra Johnson; granddaughter, Catherine of Vancouver, BC; and only grandson, John of Bonnyville, AL. One brother, Ralph (Louise) of Halifax, NS, also remains as well as special cousin, Eileen Elms (Lorne) and special niece, Lynn Hammond (Pat) of Gander, NL; and a large circle of other family and dear friends and acquaintances. Les is a WW2 veteran (#970875) having served in the 59th Royal Artillery; a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, having joined with the Trinity South branch post service and also the Great War Veteran's Association; and contributed for many years (including chaired) the Legion Sponsoring Committee of 537 Air Cadet Squadron. Les enjoyed his working years with Transport Canada as an electrician/mechanic keeping diesel power running, runway lighting maintained and no break power to air traffic control. Funeral service Monday June 2nd, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from St Martin's Anglican Cathedral, Gander. Inurnment followed at All Saints Cemetery, Gander.
