BAIRD, Edgar Albert
Passed peacefully away in his home in Gander on May 1, 2005, Edgar Baird, age 93. Predeceased by his wife Mary Irene Gordon (Smart). Edgar was born on May 28, 1911 in Campbellton, Newfoundland, the son of William Wallace and Louisa Isabella (Peyton) Baird. Also predeceased by his sisters: Evelyn Gruchy and Margaret Huff and his brother: Temple. Remembered fondly by his children: William (Cathy), Jane (Richard Sharp), John and Mary (Rick Suley); his sister: Gwen Monk of Kingston, Ontario and two dog friends: Monty and Maria. Edgar led an adventurous life from an early age and was a well known businessman and community leader with a passion for Newfoundland 's woodlands. A Superintendent of the Newfoundland Forestry Unit, Edgar led a battalion of 960 foresters to Scotland in 1940. In 1941 he signed up with the Royal Air Force and rose to the rank of Flight Lieutenant. After the war Edgar returned to Newfoundland with his new bride and embarked on a successful career in various businesses, including bush flying, hunting camps and lumbering. He was the chair of Gander 's first Local Improvement District, which laid the foundation for one of the province's most successful municipalities. In 1961, he was a volunteer fire boss during the great forest fire that devastated Bonavista North. In his retirement years, he focused his energies to promoting sustainable management of Newfoundland 's woodlands. In September 2004, Edgar was awarded the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of his contributions. The funeral service took place on May 4th at St. Martins Anglican Cathedral in Gander. Donations in his memory may be made to the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest in Gander.

HICKS, Stanley
Passed away at Hillcrest Manor in Musgrave Harbour on May 1, 2005, Stanley Hicks of Musgrave Harbour in his 81st year. Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen; parents, Frank and Annie Hicks; and brother, George Hicks. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his son, Dr. Frank Hicks (Roma) of Springdale; two daughters, Grace Mouland (Weldon) of Musgrave Harbour and Dr. Linda Healey (Terry) of Abbottsford, BC; three brothers, Lorna Hicks of Musgrave Harbour, Roland Hicks (Barbara) of Eastport and Allan Hicks (Loretta) of St. John's; three sisters, Olive Mouland of Musgrave Harbour, Florence Pardy (Gilbert) of Musgrave Harbour and Marie Ryan (Boyce) of Robert's Arm; seven grandchildren, Joanne, Roxanna, Candace, Beth Anne, Christopher, Matthew and Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda and Andrew; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on May 4th at the Salvation Army Citadel in Musgrave Harbour. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Musgrave Harbour. OSMOND, Llewellyn, Jr.
Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on May 1, 2005, Llewellyn Osmond, Jr., age 52. Mr. Osmond is predeceased by his parents, Llewellyn and Jessie. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Wanda; sons, Jordon of Alberta, Kyle and Juston, both of Benton; brothers, Fred (Nadine) of Alberta, Jim (Sylvia) of Mount Pearl, Perry (Wanda) of Mount Pearl, Wilfred of Toronto, Nathon of Benton; sisters, Alice (Suley Keats) of Benton, Wanetta (Ray Geange) of Glovertown, Gloria (Jerry) of St. John's, Gertie (Pat) of St. Alban's; several nephews and nieces; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. WAY, Cluny Davidson
Passed peacefully away on May 1, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Cluny Davidson Way of Newtown, Bonavista Bay, aged 85 years, 11 months. Predeceased by his wife, Sophie; grandson, Thomas Jurgen Way; brother, Boyd; sister, Daphne (Bungay) Gill. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons, Tom (Winnifred) of PEI and Cluny (Pamela) of Topsail; daughters, Patricia (John) Boland of Newtown, Cheryl (Winston) Perry of Newtown and Trudi of Ottawa; brother, Frank (Hazel) of Newtown; sisters, Sadie (Albert)Barbour of St. John's and Doris (Calvin) Barbour of Newtown; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reid, Craig Anthony

It is with broken hearts that Craig's Family announce the sudden passing of a much loved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, in Fernie, B.C. Funeral for the late Nellie Hiscock, formerly of Burnside, Newfoundland, was held on May 14, 2005 at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Burnside, Bonavista Bay. Interment took place at St. Alban's Cemetery, Burnside. A reception was held at the Legion in Eastport to celebrate Nellie's Legacy. Donations may be made to the St. Alban's Cemetery Fund.

Passed peacefully away on May 13, 2005 in the presence of her loving family, Marion Suley, R.N., age 84. Passed peacefully away on May 13, 2005 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Harry White, age 74 years, former employee with Alpine Drycleaners, Lakeside Homes and Town Taxi. Harry was also an avid fisherman and hunter. FRANCIS, Harvey Gilbert
(August 26, 1917 – May 17, 2005)
Passed peacefully away on May 17, 2005 at Western Regional Health Care Centre, Corner Brook, Harvey Gilbert Francis, age 87 years. Mr. Francis was born at Clarke's Head, Gander Bay and spent most of his life living in Glenwood. He was a retired Wildlife and Fisheries Warden and World War II veteran. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Laura; daughter, Rosemary (Lester Sparkes) and son, Llewelyn (Sandra Bessey) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Mr. Francis was a gentle, quiet and proud man. He fondly recalled his countless trips navigating the Gander River and was happy to share memories with those lucky enough to listen. Funeral services was held Friday, May 20th at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Glenwood with interment at the Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice would be gratefully accepted.

Passed away at the North Haven Manor in Lewisporte on May 19, 2005, Mr. George Hart, age 65 years. Mr. Hart is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Caroline; sister, Bessy; brothers, John and Albert. SAUNDERS, Kathleen
Passed away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on May 18, 2005, Kathleen Saunders of Gander Bay, aged 91 years. Predeceased by her husband, Harold Saunders; sisters, Hope Gillingham and Margaret Bursey; brother, Ross Torraville. Leaving to mourn are sons, Frank (Joan), David (Phyllis), Bill (Kathleen) and Ross (Olive); daughters, Susie Abbott (Tobe), Barby Anctil (Gerry), Pauline Van Vught (Harry), Joyceanne Brake (Allan) and Jenny Willcott (Levi); 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Hopkins; sister-in-law, Helen Torraville and brother-in-law, Don Saunders (Shirley). MILLER, Harold
Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on May 18, 2005, Harold Miller of Trinity, age 84. Predeceased by his brothers, Beniah and Earnest Miller and sisters, Minnie Ryan, Kay Sims and Alice Ash. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Hazel; son, Darryl (Doris) of Trinity; daughters, Elizabeth (Ross Keough) of Parsons Pond, Sandra (Tom Flowers) of Rigolet, Marlene (Ray Brennan) of St. Johns, Elaine (Russell Rogers) of Gander and special adopted daughter, Krista (Mark Berman) of Pokeno, New Zealand; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Taker of Toronto and Theresa Walsh of St. John's; and a large circle of other family and friends. ROGERS, Lester W.
Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on May 19, 2005, Lester W. Rogers, of Centreville, age 83 years. Predeceased by his wife, Margorie; parents, Edgar Charles and Hannah Rogers; son-in-law, Morgan Lockyer; sister-in-law, Tryphenia Rogers; and brother-in-law, Clarence Pickett. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are one son, Kevin (Maisie) of Centreville; three daughters, Gladys Pike (Don) of Woody Point, Bonne Bay, Emma Brown (Jeffrey) of Centreville and Marie Lockyer of Fort McMurray; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald and one sister, Ethel Pickett, both of Centreville; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Frederick William Parsons of Gambo, formerly of Gooseberry Island, age 99. Predeceased by his first wife, Gladys and two infant daughters; as well as his wife of many wonderful years, Rose (Wade) and son, Milton. Left to mourn are daughters, Myrtle Sturge (Clyde), Ann Lane (Dave); sons, Job (Peggy) and John; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur (Janet) and Lewis (Daphne); and a large circle of friends. WHITE, Robert G.
Passed away after a short illness with cancer at Elmira, Ontario on May 21, 2005, Robert G. White, formerly of Newfoundland, age 73. Predeceased by parents Samuel and Keren White, one brother, Gilbert, and one sister, Tabitha. Left to mourn are his wife, Annie; two daughters, Sharon and Marlene; three sons, Larry, Robbie and Rodney; 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Alice (Maurice), Ella (Bill), Linda (Lindsay) and Pearl (Mac); one brother, Abe (Daphne); and a large number of relatives and friends. Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on May 23, 2005, Mr. Laud Abbott of Musgrave Harbour in his 90th year. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary Jane Abbott; sons, Carol and Owen, daughter, Muriel Abbott; brothers, Warren Abbott and Lemuel Abbott; sisters, Muriel Abbott, Lillian West and Blanche Normore; and great-grandson, Jeffery Rogers. Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's, Lori Bursey, age 31 years. CLARKE, Garfield James (Jim)
Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on May 26, 2005, Mr. Jim Clarke, age 63 years. Predeceased by parents, Garfield and Adelaide and brother-in-law, Robert Reed. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his wife, Hilda; son, Wayne and wife, Nancy, Whiteby, Ont.; daughters, Dana and husband, Darren Wicks, Gander and Tina and husband, Michael Foley, Gander; sister, Sheila Reed, Gander; grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Isabella and Carly; niece, Shawnane Reed; great-nephew, Timothy Greene; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held May 28th at the Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints United Cemetery, Gander. KEOUGH, Mary Francis
Passed away at her home in Boyd's Cove on May 28, 2005, Mary Francis Keough in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband, Patrick. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her son, Michael (Edna) of Boyd's Cove; daughters, Rita (Edward Lynch) of Island Harbour and Anne (Wayne Dyke) of Gander; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 31st at St. Anne's Church, Boyd's Cove. Interment followed at St. Anne's Cemetery. Donations to Mrs. Keough's memory can be made to the St. Anne's Catholic Church, Boyd's Cove. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Woolfrey's Funeral Home, Lewisporte.

NIPPARD, Lindsey
Passed peacefully away on May 29, 2005, Mr. Lindsey Nippard, age 67 years. Predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Julie Nippard. Left with loving memories are his sons, Marshall of Calgary, AB, Andrew of Main Point; stepsons, Darrell Nippard of Calgary, Herb (Joanne) of Pasadena, Ivan (Sandra) of Main Point; stepdaughter, Sandra (Darrell) Carter of Pasadena; brothers, Norman (Katherine), Nelson (Audrey), Ryburn (Mary), Francis (Edith), all of Main Point, Melvin ( Bonnie ) of Horwood; sister, Joyce (Tom) Skinner of Main Point; two grandchildren, Sharla and Kyla. Funeral service was held on June 2nd at Davidsville Anglican Church. Interment at Anglican Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements through Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.
