COLLINS, Edward
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father Edward George Collins on March 29th 2016 in his 72nd year. Born February 23, 1944 in Twillingate, NL, Ed was the son of the late Gladys and George Collins of Durrell, NL. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen (Paul) Szekeres of Toronto. Left to mourn are his two daughters Sherry (Tony) Gabriel of Gander and Joanne (David) Hall of Fall River, NS, and his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Ellen Gabriel and Andrew and Mark Hall; sister Marie (Calvin) Anstey of Toronto; brother Ernest (Minie) Collins of St. John's; special friend Marie as well as a large circle of friends. As a young man, he worked in Toronto before returning to Gander in 1975 to work for Eatons. In 1981, he opened Serv-All Ltd. where he worked until he retired. He was well known in the community as the appliance repairman and spent many hours fixing appliances for people in Gander and around the Loop. Ed grew up with a love for the ocean and he always enjoyed spending his spare time at his boyhood home in Twillingate. He was the happiest and most content cruising the waters in his boat and often included a stop at his favorite spot - Spillar's Rock. He always made sure that his daughters had their catch of fish for the winter and in recent summers was proud to take his grandchildren out in the boat to show them how to jig a codfish. He had a large circle of friends. In early retirement he loved riding his motorcycle and always enjoyed morning coffee with "the boys" at Tim Hortons. There was always a joke or two to tell and he's been known to tell the same one more than once or twice. Visitation was be held at Stacey's Funeral Home, 60 Roe Avenue, Gander. Internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Visit www.staceysfuneralhome.ca to leave a message of condolence.
