Passed peacefully away on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gwendoline Reid, age 78 years. Predeceased by her husband, Louis; son, Gary; sister, Madge and brothers, Jack, Austin and Robert. Passed peacefully away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Leo Cosmas Shea, aged 90 years. Predeceased by Cornileus and Fanny Shea, brother, Patrick, sisters, Sadie and Mary and daughter, Elaine. Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Brookfield Hospital, Mr. Clayton Cuff of Musgrave Harbour, in his 96th year. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Selina Cuff; brothers, Clyde, Earl, Walter and Ronald; sisters, Gertrude, Hettie and Doris. SNOOK, Clara (nee Clarke)
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, March 08, 2008, at Lakeside Senior Citizens Home in Gander, Clara Snook (nee Clarke), aged 85 years. Predeceased by husband, Leonard (Aug 13, 1977); brother, Walter; sisters, Isola Clarke and Doreen Johnson. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Ina Mosher (Ron), Ann Egas (Robert); son, Leonard (Wendy); brother, William (Gertie); sisters, Emmie Cox and Ina Adams (Doug); six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of relatives and friends. MULLETT, May Cavell (nee Lush) –
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at The Wenleigh Nursing Home, Mississauga, ON, May Mullett, born on May 17, 1925 in Gambo, NL. Predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, James (2003), her eldest daughter, Cavell Morency and her grandson, Robbie Morency. May devoted her life to her family. She was a wonderful and loving mother to Diane Caravan, James (Margo), David (Jane), Carolyn Wiscombe (Paul), Roma Guerin (Paul), Katherine Latini (Leo), and Dean (Alison) and mother-in-law, Jean-Marc Morency. Nanny will be greatly missed by her 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Survived by her sister-in-law, Winnie Lush and many nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Lawrence, Ken, Ethel, Francis, Clara and Alma. In the last four years, May (Mom) faced many challenges due to declining health but fought a valiant battle. We would like to thank the nurses and care providers at The Wenelight, the nurses and doctors at the Credit Valley Renal Unit, and the staff at Ambutrans for their care and compassion. A private family service will be held at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 905-279-7663. Interment St. John’s, Dixie Cemetery, Mississauga. FACEY, Marie
Passed peacefully away on March 12, 2008 at Twillingate, Marie Facey in her 90th year. Predeceased by her loving husband, Cecil in 1983. Fondly remembered by her daughter, Helen (Harry) White of Twillingate and son, Eric (friend, Jackie) of Gander; grandsons, Robert (Tanya) of South Africa and Richard (Margaret) of Grand Falls; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Connor. Rested at Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate. Funeral service was held on Saturday, March 15th. Interment at the United Church Cemetery at Bearberry Head.

LOCKE, Ronald Edward
Born St. John's 1936, living in Gander. Passed peacefully away surrounded by loving family on March 12, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander. Predeceased by his parents, James and Kathleen, and brother, Allan. Left to mourn with wonderful memories his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Ida; two daughters, Rhonda (Bernie) and Sharon (Rob); two sons, Derek and Glenn (Kim); four grandchildren Andy(Cori), Michael, Ryan, and Brenden; and one great-grandchild, Kailyn. Also left to mourn sister, Sandra Tobin (Kenneth), St. John's; three brothers, Peter (Hilda), Cambridge, Edward (Dorothy), St. John's, and Frank (Joan), Winnipeg and an extended group of family and friends. With special thanks to Dr. St. Croix, the nurses and staff at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, the medical team and nurses at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John's and Gander, and the nurses and health care professionals in the Health Sciences Centre all of whom showed unending compassion and care during the past three years of this courageous battle with illness. SLANEY, William M. –
Passed peacefully away Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at St. Clare’s Hospital, World War II veteran, William M. Slaney, age 89 years of Gambo. Predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth; sisters, Theresa (Richard) Finn and Kathleen (James) Smith; brothers, Jack and Kitch; daughter, Michelle. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Frances (Eastman); daughters, Marlene (Rodney Martin) and Cindy (Steve Stares); sons, Michael (Abbey), Scotty (Isabelle) and Dean (Linda); grandchildren, Kelsey, Shalynn, Brianna, Jodie and Grace; brother, Cornelius (Barney); sisters-in-law, Dorothea Slaney and Joyce Slaney, Madge (Charlie) Saunders, Vera (Bob) Paul, Serena Crocker, Viola (Martin) Chatman, and Joyce (Symour) Eastman; many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. William lived a long and fulfilling life that included service in World War II (Department of Forestry, The Home Guard and the Merchant Navy). He spent 20 years overseas in Scotland after the war. Then he returned to Newfoundland met his wife, Frances. Together they operated a contracting company (doing business with Bowater and Blunden Brothers), restaurant, gas station, taxi service and provided the first sign of electricity to ten homes in Gambo. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend full of wisdom and knowledge. We will always remember him and keep in our hearts forever.

FAULKNER, Robert
Passed peacefully away on March 13, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Robert Faulkner, age 86 years. Predeceased by his wife, Flossie (1975); parents, James and Gertrude (nee Lander) Faulkner of Bonavista. Left with loving memories are his children, Gladys (Redvers Sr.) Gosse, Linda (Gerry) Snow, Cynthia (Donald) Burt, Robert James. Jr; grandchildren, Dana Diamond, Redvers Gosse Jr, Brian and Gail Snow, Sheldon and Evan Burt; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Colin Gosse, Mark and Megan Diamond; sister, Gladys Strickland and brother, Bert (Muriel) Faulkner. Passed peacefully away Friday, March 14, 2008 at Brookfield Hospital on Violet May Eveleigh, age 94 years, of Greenspond. Predeceased by her parents, Elias and Sarah Taite; husband, Walter Wornell; husband, Simon Eveleigh; seven sisters and one brother. THOMPSON, Eileen
Passed away suddenly on March 16, 2008 in the presence of her family, Eileen Kelly of Gambo. Born April 18th, 1933, the daughter of Frederick and Josephine Stockley. She and Frank Kelly were married on September 25th, 1950 and together they raised 14 children. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her father, Frederick and leaves behind her mother, Josephine Stockley, age 93. Left to mourn are her many children, Brian (Frances), Garrett (Rola), Maureen (Paul), Bob (Charlene), Sharon (Geoff), Fred (Andrea), Frank (Barb), Ross (Cathy), Josephine (Albert), Kate (Gene), Noel (Jennifer), Ian (Linda), Wayne (Cherie) and Jason (Jeha); her brothers, Mackenzie (Veronica), William (Kathleen), Wayne (Judy), Merrill (Brenda) and sisters, Beatrice (Emerson Pitcher), Yvonne, Olive (William Keats), along with a large circle of 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a great many friends. Passed peacefully away on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Paul Raymond Thompson, age 61 years. Predeceased by father, Raymond Thompson. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on March 19, 2008, Margaret Ball (nee Ash), longtime resident of Glenwood, in her 87th year. TULK, Regina Louise
Passed peacefully away on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Regina Louise Tulk, age 91 years of Ladle Cove. Predeceased by her husband, Enos; parents, Archelaus and Rosanna Wellon; brothers, Everett, Arthur and Randolph. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Joan (Abasolom) of Rimbly, Alberta, Yvonne (Finley) of Ladle Cove, John (Marilyn) of Carmanville, Barry (Betty) of Gambo, Norma (Duke) of Paradise, Pauline (Monty) of Ladle Cove; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters; 3 brothers as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral took place at St. Stephen’s United Church, Ladle Cove on Tuesday, March 25th with Rev. H. Templeman officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Ladle Cove. MERKE, Karl
Passed peacefully away on March 26, 2008 at the age of 76, Karl Merkle, originally from Oeschingen, Germany, long-time resident of Gander. Left to mourn his wife, Stella; son, Tony; daughter, Vanina and faithful dog, Buddy; brother, Werner (Germany) and sister, Maria ( New York). Also a large circle of friends and relatives including Betty and Tia (Pop’s Fifi) of Mt. Pearl; Darlene, Branden and Kristen (Kilbride); Thierry, Christophe and Sandie ( St. Pierre); Dave and France (Montreal); best friends, Bernie and Beulah. Cremation and private family prayer fathering has taken place as per his wishes. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Health Sciences Center for all their valiant efforts on his behalf. He was a good man and lived a good life. He gently slipped away surrounded by the love of his family and he will be dearly missed.

GOULDING, Cornelius
Passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Cornelius Goulding, age 87 years, 11 months. Predeceased by his wife, Ida Goulding in 2006; sons, Clarence and Bramwell and baby daughter, Marie. Left to mourn, daughters, Gwennie (Jordan) Sturge, Barbara (James) Slaney, Gloria (David) Stokes; sons, Wilfred (Catherine) and Milton (Lily); brother, Gordon (Shirley) Goulding; daughter-in-law, Corena Goulding; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Resting at Pritchett’s Funeral Home, Gambo. Funeral Service was held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Gambo on April 2 nd. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery.
