SMITH, Frank
Passed peacefully away on March 1, 2005 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Frank Smith, age 67 years. Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen; parents, Cecil and Margaret Smith. Frank retired after working many years as a Superintendent at the School Board in Gander. Left with loving memories are sons, Craig (Mary) of Guelph, ON, Kyle of Gander; daughters, Franca of Gander and Katrina of Gander; sister, Ulna (Martin) Sutter of Manuals, NL; three grandchildren, Veronica, Samantha and Alexandria; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Thank you to Aunt Angela and Uncle John Kelly, Elaine and Pat Stamp of St. John's, Power family of Brigus and the Walsh family of St. John's. Funeral mass was held on March 4th at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. CROWELL, Annie M. –
Passed peacefully away on March 2, 2005 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Annie M. Crowell in her 102nd year. Predeceased by husband, Randolph in 1983. Left with loving memories are sons, Lorne (Isabel) of Moncton, NB, Bill (Shirley) of Mount Pearl, Kevin (Sharron) of Sarnia, ON, Clyde (Theresa) of Halifax, NS; daughters, Geneva Crowell of Gander, Patricia Smith of St. John's, Marilyn (Verne) Qualley of Perley, Minnesota, Dorothy (Ray) Turnbell of Halifax, NS; sister-in-law, Netta Crowell of Glenwood; foster daughter, Ivy Price of Grand Falls-Windsor; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; also a large circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. STOKES, Jethro E. –
Passed peacefully away on March 2, 2005 at Brookfield Hospital, Jethro Ellis Stokes of Deadman's Bay, age 63 years. Predeceased by his parents, Sandy and Mary Jane Stokes; grandson, Gregory; brother, Eric and wife, Ida. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Reta; one son, Duane (Stella) of Marystown; six daughters, Joy of St. John's, Sandra of Moncton, NB, Cindy Pike (Randy) of Marystown, Michelle Hillyard (Shawn) of St. Jones Within, Daphne Crocker (Dave) of Pool's Island, Lori Hillyard (Chris) of Gander; one brother, Walt (Lorraine) of Tumbler Ridge, BC; one sister, Shirley Holwell (Dave) of Churchill Falls; 11 grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on March 4th at the United church, Deadman's Bay with Capt. Paul Rideout officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery , Deadman's Bay. MATTHEWS, Lucy –
Passed peacefully away on March 6, 2005 at Brookfield Hospital, Lucy Matthews of Wareham, age 83 years. Predeceased by her parents, Gladys and Samuel Pickett; son, Stephen; grandson, Bertram Lee Rogers; sons-in-law, Robert Hounsell and Harvey Fancy; brother, William Pickett. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Douglas; sons, Clarence (Eliza), Gerald (Emma), Clayton (Dallis), all of Wareham, William (Irma) of Wabush, Jethro (Cynthia) of Ft. McMurray; daughters, Catherine (Francis) of Wareham, Beatrice of Mt. Pearl, Pearl (Cecil) of Georgetown, Donna (Rick) of Wareham; brother, Abi Pickett of Wareham; sisters, Delilah Cutler of Centreville, Irene Paul of Labrador City, Ella Hunt (Llewellyn) of Wareham; daughter-in-law, Jackie Matthews of Toronto; extended family, Lillian, Kerry and Bert; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on March 10th at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Wareham with Rev. Sam Rose officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Wareham. LEGGE, Joseph –
Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on March 7, 2005, Mr. Joseph Legge, formerly of Sweet Bay, B.B. NL, age 81. Mr. Legge is predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Susanna; brother, Mike; sister-in-law, Christine; sister, Margaret Lane; and brother-in-law, Roy Quinton. Left with fond and loving memories are brothers, Jack and wife, Shirley, William and wife, Rose, Edward and wife, Tina, all of Sweet Bay; sister, Mary Quinton of Gander; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. BLAKE, Isabelle –
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes in Gander on March 9, 2005, Isabelle Blake, age 77 years. Predeceased by husband, Fred, son, Melvin Brinson, mother, Rebecca Brinson and brothers, Randolph, Eliam and Joseph. Funeral services was held on March 13th at the Salvation Army Citadel, Hare Bay with Majors Barry and Donna Anstey officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Hare Bay. WELLS, Rebecca Mary – Passed peacefully away on March 10, 2005 at Brookfield Hospital, Rebecca Mary Wells of Trinity, B. Bat, age 63 years. Predeceased by her parents, William and Cecilia Gibbons and sister, Alma Gibbons. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Joseph; four sons, Lorna (Josephine) of Trinity, B. Bay, Tony (Mary) of Scarborough, ON, Danny (Bessie) of Wareham, Gerry (Doreen) of Brockville, ON; four daughters, Judy of Trinity, B. Bay, Jean Brown (George) of Trinity, B. Bay, Claudette Pond (Ivan) of Trinity, B. Bay, Tracey Collins (Seaward) of Wareham; two brothers, Harry (Rose) of Buchans, Roland (Christine) of Scarborough, ON; three sisters, Gertrude Brown of Labrador City, Ida Hunt (Same) of Welland, ON, Ella Gibbons (Rex Pickett) of Pickering, ON; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. HANCOCK, Nina Loretta –
Passed peacefully away on March 11, 2005 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Nina Loretta Hancock, age 93 years. Predeceased by husband, Harvey, daughter, Daphne 2004. Left with loving memories are her sons, Ellis (Phyllis) of Aspen Cove, Austin (Pansy) of Fort McMurray; son-in-law, George Leitch of Ontario; brother, Lynn Chaulk (Joyce) of Ontario; sister, Vivian Burt (Clifford) of Ontario; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. HICKS, Ida –
Passed peacefully away on March 12, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Mrs. Ida Hicks of Musgrave Harbour in her 86th year. Predeceased by her husband, Clayton Hicks; parents, Hettie and Hedley Mouland; sisters, Beatrice Guy and Myrtle Smith; and brother, Walter Mouland. Left with fond and loving memories are her two sons, Cecil Hicks (Jean) of Musgrave Harbour and Bernard Hicks of Musgrave Harbour; two daughters, Yvonne Chaulk (Frank) of Aspen Cove and Shirley Crawford (John) of Panama City, Florida; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral service was held on March 14th at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Musgrave Harbour. Interment at Salvation Army Cemetery in Musgrave Harbour. HUMPHRIES, Lucy –
Passed peacefully away on March 17, 2005 at Brookfield Hospital, Lucy Humphries of Wesleyville, age 90 years. Predeceased by her husband, Maxwell; sister, Elizabeth Stokes; brothers, Ammon and Ralph; step-brother, Wilfred Andrews; and step-sister, Clara Andrews. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her two daughters, Daphne Rafuse (Leonard) of Chester, Nova Scotia, Linda Humphries of St. John's, one granddaughter, Wendy Rafuse of Nova Scotia; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on March 19th at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove with Rev. Miriam Bowlby officiating. Interment followed at the Cape Freels Cemetery, Cape Freels. NICHOLS, Beverly Nancy –
On Saturday, March 19, 2005, Beverly Nancy Nichols of Edmonton, Alberta and formerly of Vegreville, Alberta and Gander, Newfoundland, passed away at the age of 54 years with her loving family at her bedside. Bev will be sadly missed and always remembered by her family, her devoted husband, Harold, and three treasured sons, Stephen, Adam and Matthew. She is also survived by her loving father, Frazer Hudson of Western Bay, Newfoundland; one brother, Derek of Stephenville, Newfoundland; mother-in-law, Myrtle Nichols of Botwood, Newfoundland; nieces and nephews, other very dear relatives and many, many friends. Predeceased by her mother, Lillian Hudson; and father-in-law, Alexander Nichols. A Celebration of Bev's life will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. at Fedun's Funeral Chapel, Vegreville. MOORES, Barbara – Passed peacefully away on March 20, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Barbara Moores of Badger's Quay, age 83 years. Predeceased by her husband, Edward; son, Raymond; parents, Joseph and Lucy Dyke; brothers, Hector and sister-in-law, Eva and Walter Dyke; sister, Bertha Spurrel and brother-in-law, Frank Spurrell of Pool's Island and Claude Spurrell of Badger's Quay, Leo Kean of Wesleyville. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her two sons, Eric of Badger's Quay, Kevin (Deborah) of Flowers Cove; three grandchildren, Raymond, Amanda (boyfriend, David Moores), Jeremy; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Moores; sisters, Vera Spurrell of Badger's Quay, Maude Kean of Wesleyville; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on March 21, 2005 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Mr. Eliol Humby, age 74 years. Mr. Humby was long-time ambassador of the Scouting movement and a member of the LOL Orange Lodge. Predeceased by parents, Obediah and Emmie Humby, sister, Bessie Sellers. Left with loving memories are wife, Grace; sons, Derek of Howick, Quebec, Calvin (Catherine) of Waterdown, Ont., Gary (Deborah) of Gander, Barry (Angela) of Burlington, Ont., Karen Humby (Morley Payne) of St. John's; brother, Clayton (Mel) Sackville, NS; sister, Rebecca (Sam) Bailey of St. John's; grandchildren, Jamie, Sea, Daniel and Jackson Humby; special friends, Merlin and Dulcie Feltham; also a large circle of other relatives and friends.
