KEAN, Ivy (nee Preston)
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on Saturday, June 4, 2005, Ivy Kean (nee Preston ), age 78 years of Gander, formerly of Valleyfield, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by brothers, Percy and Corbett. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Eli of 60 years; son, Wilson of Alberta; daughters, Gertrude of Moncton, Leah of Mount Pearl, Christine (Roy) of Wabush, Karen (Baxter) of Badger's Quay; brother, Hedley; sisters, Minnie and Addie. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren. Ivy will be forever remembered by all those who loved her for her spiritual guidance and her witty remarks. Funeral service was held on June 7th at the United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Heather Sandford officiating. Interment followed at the United Cemetery, Valleyfield. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Church, Valleyfield. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Musgrave Harbour/Pound Cove.

PERRY, Ruby
Passed away suddenly on June 4, 2005 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Ruby Perry, age 58 years. Predeceased by her parents, Clara and Arch Hodder. Left with loving memories are her son, Todd (Carrie-Lee) of Gander; daughter, Adele (Stephen) of Torbay; brothers, Ernest (Jessie) of Davidsville, Gerald (Edna) of Main Point, Howard (Leah) of Davidsville, Walter (Kay) of Davidsville, Gilbert (Hazel) of Frederickton; sisters, Marion (Guy) of Carmanville, June (Todd) of Corner Brook, Diane (Larry) of Noggin Cove; two grandchildren, Hayley and Erica; also a large circle of relatives and friends. TURNER, Annie Margaret (nee Brown)
Entered into eternal rest on June 8, 2005 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Annie Margaret (nee Brown) Turner of Happy Adventure in her 84th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Harvey (1992); brothers, Lewis and John; sisters, May and Edith. Left to mourn are her daughter, Joan Innes (George); sons, William (Lorraine) and Robert (Linda); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Ivy), sister, Olive Babstock (Gerald); sisters-in-law, Lurley Brown and Betty Brown. Rested at Squires Funeral Home, Eastport. Funeral service was held on June 11th at Holy Cross Anglican Church. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. In her memory, donations may be made to Holy Cross Anglican Church, Eastport, Newfoundland.

WINTERS, R. Maxwell (Max)
The death of Robert Maxwell (Max) Winters of 54 Mountain Road, Saint John East, husband of Arline (Webster) Winters, occurred unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Brookfield Hospital, Wesleyville, Newfoundland. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late George and Ethel (Snow) Winters. Max was an Industrial Mechanic at Lantic Sugar for 24 years and later worked at Irving Paper for 16 years before his retirement in 1990. He was an avid hockey enthusiast, being a great fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the Saint John Flames where he was a member of the Igniters Fan Club. Max was a big supporter of and coached the Industrial Hockey Leagues, volunteered with the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign and was a member of Local 601 Paper Worker's Union. Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers, Roland of Gambo, NL, Walter (Mary) of Wesleyvlle, NL, and Dr. George (Gloria) of St. John's, NL; four sisters, Verna Isnor (Harold) of Hampton, Lena Rogers (Eric) of Pool's Island, NL, Susie Wilkins of Gander, NL and Jessie Freake (Bill) of Wesleyville, NL; several cousins, nieces, nephews and his special pal, Sugar Plum. Rested at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, Saint John. Funeral service took place at Forest Hills United Baptist church on June 13th. Interment at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery . SPURRELL, Frank (born June 11, 1922 )
Passed peacefully away on June 15, 2005 at the Health Science Centre, St. John's, Frank Spurrell. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Alice Spurrell; brother, Claude; and son, Gerald. Left to mourn his wife, Emma of 58 years; daughter, Sylvia (Bruce) Cowie of Nova Scotia; son, Lester (Gloria) Spurrell of Alberta; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilfred of Nova Scotia and Edwin (Shirley) of St. John's; sisters, Marion LaFond of Nova Scotia and Maude (Ronald Marshall) of Nova Scotia. Funeral service was held on June 18th at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Badger's Quay with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Badger's Quay. NORMAN, Wilfred
Passed away suddenly at Lumsden on June 15, 2005, Wilfred Norman of Lumsden, age 73. Predeceased by parents, William and Elizabeth Norman; brothers, Victor and Lloyd; sisters, Marion and Annie and son, Randy; daughter, Anne; brothers-in-law, Hubert Noel, Duke Blackwood, Hedley Gaulton, Jack Melindy and Gordon Melindy. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Elsie; sons, Garrett (Cindy) and Neal (Linda), all of Lumsden; daughter, Joy Davis (Clarence) of Lumsden; sister, Ina Gaulton of St. John's; five granddaughters, Curtis, Angela, Lisa-Marie, Kayla and Corina; sisters-in-law, Juanita Hatcher (Erwin), Margaret Norman, Marion Melindy, Dorcas Melindy, all of Lumsden and Cyneth Norman of Placentia; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Melindy (Patricia) of Springdale and Fred Melindy (Norma) of Valleyfield; and a large circle of family and friends. Passed peacefully away on June 15, 2005 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Philip Seymour Sturge of Brookfield, age 81 years. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Sarah Sturge, son, Philip and brother, Cator. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Juliana; two daughters, Beatrice (Ted Grimes) of Little Bay Island, Patsy (Peter Stratton) of Brookfield; one brother, William (Emma); two sisters, Victoria (Duncan Gates) and Sadie (Wilfred Mercer), all of Brookfield; two sisters-in-law, Jemina Sturge of Badger's Quay and Mary Attwood of Valleyfield; grandchildren, Kimberley (Perry), Philip (Lisa), Niki (Corey), Robert (Lori); great-grandchildren, Kyle, Shane, Chelsea-Lee, Haley and Emily; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. HODGE, Mary Lorna
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on June 22, 2005, Mary Lorna Hodge, age 68 years. Predeceased by her parents, Winnie and Oswald Forsey. Left with loving memories are her husband, William (Bill); sons, Ernest (Dianne) of Brooklyn, ON, Rick (Debbie) of Appleton; daughters, Debbie (Tony) John of Glenwood, Carol Hodge of Glenwood; brothers, Oscar Forsey (Sylvia) of Glenwood, Ernest Forsey (Dianna) of ON; sister, Audrey Boyd of Scarborough, ON; grandchildren, Jeff, Ton Marie, Justin, Jake, Tiffany, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Noah, Kyle and Tristan; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. STURGE, Gertie Lillian
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. A.A. Wilkinson Memorial Hospital, Old Perlican on June 23, 2005, age 61 years. Predeceased by her father, Everett; mother, Emma, sister, Rose Noseworthy and grandson, Tyler Sturge. Leave to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Hayward; son, Everett (Arlene); brothers, Warrick Squires (Dorothy), Charles Squires (Iris); special friend, Janett Norris; nieces and nephews and many friends. Many thanks to the staff at both the Dr. H. Bliss Cancer Center and the Dr. A.A. Wilkinson Memorial Hospital. Cremation took place with Memorial Service on June 27th at the United Church, Old Perlican.

ROWSELL, Douglas George
(Sept 11, 1930 – June 25, 2005)
Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on June 25, 2005, Douglas George Rowsell. Beloved husband of Emma, loving father of Sheila and Marilyn, father-in-law of Harold and loving grandfather of Shari, Lori and Tracey. Predeceased by his parents, Maxwell and Gwenlyn Rowsell; son-in-law, Howard Mercer; brothers-in-law, Gordon Brown, Seamore Brown, Elma Collins and Neilson Greening. Parents-in-law, Moses and Bessie Brown and niece, Lynette Greening. Left to mourn brothers, Kevin (Pam), Austin (Francis) and Eddie (Paulette); sisters, Evelyn, Ruby (Mack), Christine (Bruce), Audrey (Lewis), Isabelle (Eric), Roslyn (Mike); sisters-in-law, Daphne, Betty (Dan), Patsy (Ambrose), Elvina (Jim), Shirley; also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Rested at Pritchett's Funeral Home, Gambo. Funeral service was held on June 28th at Emmanuel United Church, Gambo. Interment followed at the Emmanuel United Church Cemetery, Gambo.

CRITCHLEY, Hayward James
Passed peacefully away on June 27, 2005 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Hayward James Critchley, age 77 years. Predeceased by his first wife, Katie (Lane) in 1960 and second wife, Levina (Oram) in 2005 and grandson, James O'Brien. Left to mourn their sad loss, sons, Eric (Theresa), Herb (Maisie), Hayward (Louise); daughters, Patsy (Steve), Wanda (Adam); stepsons, Cyril (Mae), Charie (Susie), Harvey (Myrtle); brothers, Philip and Eli; sister, Ruby; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Pritchett's Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on June 30th. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Gambo. NL.

BOONE, Stella
(April 19, 1931 - June 28, 2005)
Passed peacefully away on June 28, 2005 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Mrs. Stella Boone, age 74. Predeceased by her parents, Chesley and Blanche Chafe; brothers, Eric chafe and Donald chafe; mother and father-in-law, James and Clara Boone; brother-in-law, Harry Little. Left to mourn with many loving memories are her husband, George; son, Douglas (Angela) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Deborah (Chris Rideout) of Mount Pearl, Carol (Maurice Jenkins) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Janet Hart of St. John's, Sharon Pitcher (Andre Kelly) of Gander, Michelle Gilbert (Rod Goulding) of Grand Falls-Windsor; one sister, Allison (Bob Russell); four brothers, Lloyd (Patsy), Ray (Marg), Hubert (Patsy) and Fred; 15 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special friends, Ruth and Claris Way and Myrtle Powell; and many other family and friends. Memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 29th, 2005 at Central Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor with Reverend Howard Crooks officiating and Friday, July 1st at Barrett's Funeral Home, St. John's. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Central Funeral Home, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor.

BARTLETT, James B.
Passed away at his home in Dartmouth, N.S. on June 28, 2005, James B. Bartlett, age 59, formerly of Gander, NL. He was the son of the late James and Gwen Bartlett of Gander. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; one daughter, Leanne; two sons, Jim and David; six sisters, Doreen, Joan and Sharon of Gander, Marina and Linda of St. John's, Trudy of Springdale, NL; two brothers, Terry of Gander and Robert of Calgary. Funeral service was held at St. Thomas More Church, Dartmouth on July 1, 2005.

CUFF, Lionel
Passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's on June 29, 2005, Mr. Lionel Cuff of Northern Arm, originally from Carmanville South in his 56th year. Predeceased by his father, Edward and sister, Viola. Left to mourn with fond an loving memories are his wife, Barbara; stepson, Jason Mullins (Shayne) of Halifax, NS; stepdaughter, Colleen Dailey (Shawn) of Botwood; mother, Letta Cuff of Carmanville; two brothers, Scott (Elaine) and Eddie (Roxanne), both of Carmanville South; four sisters, Shirley Hall (Roger) of Ottawa, ON, Gloria Edwards (Kevin) of Mount Pearl, Mary Mullett (Ernest) of Carmanville and Yvonne Samson (Jeff) of Lewisporte; two grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer; five nephews, Jeff, Lee, Tristan, Grant and Ryan; three nieces, Krista, Lynsey and Miranda; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on July 2nd at the Salvation Army Church in Carmanville. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Carmanville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer and Research Foundation. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander-Carmanville. Lionel was a very special person and will be missed by all that knew him; especially poppy's boy Joshua and poppy's girl, Jennifer.
