Passed peacefully away on June 2, 2003 at Agnes
Pratt Home, St. John's, Lily Paul in her 90th year.
Predeceased by her husband, Gideon (1990); and sons, Austin and
Martin. Left to mourn are daughters, Jennifer (Graham) Hill,
Rosemary (George) White, Carolyn (Paul) Shoemaker, son, Eric
(Roma); grandchildren, Deirdre Hill, Jocelyn Hill (Darren Clarke),

Mercer of Gander, announce his passing on June
6, 2003 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, age 88 years. Pre-deceased
by his parents, John and Emma Mercer of Bay Roberts and son,

Gladys, four daughters, Carol (John Walsh), Joy (Robert Janes),
Bonita Bretz (Jacobus Maritz), all of Gander, Colleen (John Clarke)

Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks; Gander, past president of the

Passed away on June 7, 2003 at the James Paton
Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mrs. Betsy Jane Matthews (nee
Bursey), in her 75th year. Predeceased by
husband, Clifford Louis Matthews. Left with fond and loving memories

LUDLOW, Louise -
Formerly of Roger's Cove, Gander Bay, passed peacefully away
in Edmonton, Alberta on June 10, 2003 at the
age of 91 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her two
daughters, Sadie of Fort McMurray and Eileen (Ed) of Edmonton;
14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester
and Lewis (Margaret) and sister, Violet, as well as numerous
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chesley
and son, John in 1964; son, Ben and daughter, Kathleen in 1997
and grandchildren, Mary Ludlow, Debbie Hillier and Freddy Bird.
Memorial service was held August 10, 2003 from Holy Trinity
Anglican Church in Wings Point, Gander Bay, with interment
of ashes at the Victoria Cove Cemetery also in Gander Bay.
POND, Minnie -
Passed peacefully away on June 14, 2003 at St.
Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's, Minnie Pond of
Trinity, age 64. Predeceased by parents, Wilfred and Myrtle Norris
and son, Wilfred Nathan. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories

CRISBY, Muriel L. (Sept. 26, 1908 - Jun. 17, 2003) -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Muriel
Crisby announce her passing on June 17, 2003,
at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, at the age of 94.
Predeceased by husband, Jabez and daughter, Constance Balazic.
Left to mourn with wonderful lasting memories are her son, James
of Eastport; granddaughter, Jeannie (Boyd) of Calgary; sister,
Gertrude Russell of Toronto; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and
Benjamin; a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Anglican Church, Eastport and officiated by Rev. P. Thoms. Interment

LAURELL, Roma -
A Celebration of Life Service for Roma Laurell will
be held Saturday, July 5th, 2 p.m.
at St. Martin's Anglican Church, Gander. Roma passed away peacefully
at her home in Bedford, NS on April 8, 2003,
after a year and a half long battle with cancer. She was the
wife of the late Gunnar Laurell, a local Gander-based pilot,
and leaves to mourn daughters, Christine and Inga Laurell; her
grandson, Mattias; brothers, Albert Moss and Clyde Moss; sisters,
Queena Healey and Vera Deraps; and all her extended family and
friends in the Gander and Eastport area. Roma was born in Happy
Adventure, Bonavista Bay in 1937, and was a long-time resident
of Gander before moving to Nova Scotia several years ago where
she was reunited with many of her life-long Gander friends and
neighbours who had also moved to the Halifax area. Throughout
her illness she was blessed with the constant company, laughter,
and care of these friends, her daughter, Inga and sister, Queena
and visits by daughter, Christine from Vancouver Island, and
relatives from Newfoundland. She remained humorous and gracious
on her 66th birthday on April 3rd and left
us quietly five days later. We welcome you to share memories
and celebrate her life on Saturday, July 5th at 2
p.m. at St. Martin's Anglican Church, followed by a tea at the

Passed peacefully away into the presence of our Lord on June
28, 2003, at the Health Science Centre in St. John's,
NL; Florence Hayward (Bemister) of Mount Pearl,
formerly of Musgrave Harbor, age 57. Predeceased by her husband,
Boyd Hayward in June of 1990 and father, Simeon Bemister in May
of 1984. Left to mourn are mother, Pearl Tulk (Bemister); best
friend and loving companion, Wilfred Lush; children, Dwayne,
Derrick and Michelle; grandchildren, Lee, Nichole, Vanessa, Melissa,
Kayla and Ronnie; daughters-in-law, Tammy and Angela; son-in-law,
Fred; sisters, Maisie, Marie, Maunda, Goldie and Beulah; brothers-in-law,
Richard, Aubrey, David, Ward and Mark; brothers, Elmore, Ronald,

of you often. Your love, kindness, laugh, tender touch and beautiful
glowing smile will be greatly missed.
