BLACKWOOD, Olive Mabel

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear loved one on July 23, 2016 at Agnes Pratt Home, St. John's, Olive Mabel Blackwood of Brookfield, age 94 years. Predeceased by husband George, parents Arthur and Emma Hounsell, sister Maisie Vincent and brother Lloyd Hounsell. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are daughter Jean (Frank Whiteway), grandson Glenn (Lyanne), granddaughter JoAnne, four precious great grandchildren Rebecca, Sarah, Andrew and Ryan; sister Phyllis (Alec) Janes, sisters-in-law Evelyn Winters, Marjorie Kells, Carrie Hounsell and Pearl (Albert Kean); brothers-in-law Cyril Blackwood and Bill Howell also many nephews, nieces and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on July 26, 2016 at the United Church, Brookfield with Reverends Lorne Bungay and Roberta Vincent-Bungay officiating, assisted by Rev. George Kean. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Brookfield. As an expression of sympathy donations in her memory may be made to Ebenezer United Church, Brookfield. BROWN, Ruth Jane

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one on Saturday, July 23, 2016 Ruth Jane Brown age 65 years of Trinity. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Doris Kelland; brothers Ross, Maxwell, Nelson, Gussie, Richard and Allan. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband Terry; sons Rodney (Dallas), Oshawa, ON. and Jeffrey (Joanne), Whitby, ON.; daughter Tammy Rogers (Darren), Oshawa, ON.; grandchildren Shannel, Dakota, Erin, Laci, Jaclyn, Hailee, Ally and Benjamin; brother Marven Kelland (Sharon), Victoria, BC.; sisters Marie Simmons (Eric), St. John's, Joyce Granter (Terry), Labrador City and Anita Sondey (Brian), Advance, North Carolina, USA; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Predeceased by parents Zachaues and Dorothy Churchill and brother Winston. Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on Monday, July 11, 2016 Phyllis Marguerite Carter age 85 years of Badger's Quay. Predeceased by her parents Sophie and Eli Cross; husband Stewart Claude Carter; sisters Blanche Spurrell (Obadiah), Mary Stratton (Eldon) and Kate Spurrell (Kenneth); brothers William Cross (Aletha) and Bruce Cross (Rhoda). Left with fond and loving memories are her son Herman (Edith) of Badger's Quay; brother George Cross (Joan) of Badger's Quay; grandchildren James, Denise Stokes (Michael) and Darlene Button (Kristopher); great-grandchildren Bailey and Brady; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Clara & Jesse Gill, brothers Norman and Clayton Gill. Passed away peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander on Saturday, July 23, Winnie Holloway, age 93. Left to mourn with loving memories are her sons Larry (Ruby) of Gander, Gerry (Linda) of Gander, daughters Monica Holloway of Gander, Donna Holloway of Twillingate, grandchildren Chris Holloway of St. John's, Tracy Brown (Ryan) of St. John's, Lisa Holloway of Gander, Angela Pretty (Roy) of Pierresfonds, Que; Lori Reid (Darren) of Corner Brook; great grandchildren Crystal, Jason, Roy, Kyle, Kristal, Kaitlyn; special friend Louise Boone, nieces and nephews, family and friends. Rested at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral service was held 2 pm Tuesday, July 26 from St. Martin's Anglican Cathedral. Interment followed at All Saints Cemetery. LUSH, Loretta

Passed peacefully away on July 30, 2016 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Loretta Lush of Gambo, aged 72 years. Predeceased by her beloved daughter Janice and her parents Ken and Winnie Lush. Left to honour her memory and to mourn her loss are her precious son Edward Broderick (Kerstin) of Blind River, ON; sisters Bonnie Pritchett (Harold) and Kathleen Hogan (Peter), both of Gander; nieces Penny Pritchett, Pam Pritchett, Michelle Lambert and April Earle; great niece Michelle; great nephews James and William; her special friend Jimmy Blackwood; Aunt Rita also many cousins and friends. Cremation has taken place; funeral service at a later date. Loretta had a generous spirit and a deep faith which served her well through many difficulties in her life. Her family loved her deeply and will hold her memory in their hearts always. The staff at Lakeside Homes deserve special mention. Loretta regularly expressed her appreciation of the compassionate and professional care she received from them. Her family is very grateful to all who contributed to making those last few months a time of contentment for her. A special thank you also to Philly and Rebbie Broderick for their many acts of kindness and their time spent at Loretta's bedside during those last few months. SAUNDERS, Phyllis Amelia

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Phyllis Amelia Saunders (nee Kean) peacefully and surrounded by family at the Health Sciences Complex in the Intensive Care Unit on Saturday, July 16th, 2016. She was 86 years young. Predeceased by her infant daughter Marguerite; father Robert Kean; mother Harriett Kean (nee Stroud); sisters: Frances Greening (Norman), Rita Arnold (Dolphe); and brothers: Charles (Greta) and Wallace Kean. Leaving to mourn a loving husband Howard, her partner in life and best friend. Also her loving children: Jacqueline Nield (Brian), Barb Pelger (Ed), Sharon Stratton (Lorne), Howard Saunders and Kimberley Saunders. She will be sadly missed by her 4 grandsons: Job and Ben Pelger, and Patrick (Rebecca) and Chris (Robyn) Stratton. Also her brothers: Ed Kean (Phoebe) and Max Kean (Emma); and sister, Pauline Carter. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, an extended family and a wide circle of friends, especially those in Traytown, Glovertown and Gander. A special acknowledgement for all the years of support and friendship to the Riggs family (Clarence, Marguerite, Evelyn, Phil and Lyla); her loving niece Paula and husband George Gobi; and sisters-in-law: Phyllis Eastman (Saunders), Ethel Fogwill (Saunders), Betty Dionne (Saunders), Clarice Saunders (Noftall) and Irene Kean; and Aunt Mildred Stroud. To her last hours she was a vibrant and loving woman. She had an adventurous spirit, was kind hearted and lived a full and active life. She loved to travel with her husband and family members. For many years she enjoyed treasured times "up the river" with close family and friends. She was devoted to her family, an avid gardener, thrived on helping others and loved a game of cards and sing-songs. She had a kind heart and knew instinctively what to do to make others happy. It could be baking a cake, sewing a bit of clothes, knitting a pair of socks, bringing of jam or pickles or, a pot of homemade soup. The family would like to thank the ER and ICU Staff at the Health Sciences Complex for their personal and professional care. Howard and his children would also like to thank the Staff at the Caribou Veterans Pavilion for their support and care, many kindnesses and words of condolence during this time. A small family funeral service was held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2 pm in the Chapel at Barrett's Funeral Home on 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's, NL, with a reception following at Barrett's Reception Centre. A memorial service was also held in Phyllis' honour at 3 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. Edward's Anglican Church in Glovertown, with a reception following in the church hall. All who knew her were invited to attend, to celebrate her life and share their stories. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Phyllis' memory to the Ken Diamond Memorial Park, care of the Glovertown Town Council. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one on July 6, 2016 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Joseph Clarence Spencer age 92 years of Carmanville. Predeceased by his wife Grace, parents William and Victoria Spencer, son-in-law Walter Chaulk, brother Leslie, sisters Susie Cuff and Annie Pennell. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons Winston (Donna), David (Caren), Tony (Donna), Truman (Joyce), all of Carmanville; daughters Judy, Carmanville, Brenda (Corey Gillingham), Gander Bay and Christine, Alberta; 22 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Funeral service was held on July 9, 2016 at The Salvation Army Citadel, Carmanville with Majors William and Barbara Pearce officiating.
