DUNPHY, Mary Elizabeth -
Passed away at Eventide Home in Niagara Falls, Ontario on Monday July 4, 2011 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of 65 years to John Patrick Dunphy. Dearly loved mother of Ron (Norma) Dunphy, Maureen (John) Young, John (Carol) Dunphy, Ray (Debbie) Dunphy, Fred (Andrea) Dunphy, Margaret (Jim) Lambert and Janet (Craig) Carter. Lovingly remembered by her fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dunphy was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and lived in Gander, Newfoundland for fifty five years before moving to Niagara Falls in 2001. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, Ontario visiting Tuesday 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In memory of Mrs. Dunphy donations to St. Joseph's Parish Church in Gander, Newfoundland would be appreciated by her family. ABBOTT, Eugene -
Passed away at Brookfield Hospital on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Mr. Eugene Abbott of Musgrave Harbour in his 84th year. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Sophie Abbott and brother Albert Abbott. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Jean of 65 years, town sons Allan (Margaret) of Ottawa, ON, and Fred (Lynn) of Musgrave Harbour, four daughters Joyce Mouland (Winston) of Musgrave Harbour, Myra Mouland (Raymond) of Musgrave Harbour, Lillian Decker (Jeremy) of Gander, and Sophie Wright (Kevin) of Gander, one brother Newman Abbott (Annie) of Musgrave Harbour, two sisters-in-law Marjorie Abbott of Lumsden and Gertrude King of Toronto, ON, 12 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, two uncles R.W. Abbott of Musgrave Harbour and Stewart Abbott of Gander, and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from the Salvation Army Citadel in Musgrave Harbour with Majors Barry and Donna Anstey officiating. GUY, Laura L. -
Passed away at Bonnew's Lodge in Badger's Quay on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 Mrs. Laura L. Guy of Musgrave Harbour in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband John B. Guy and step-son Harry Guy and sister Sadie Abbott. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her two step-daughters Jacqueline Cuff (Wallace) of Musgrave Harbour and Hazel Whiteway of Musgrave Harbour, two sisters Alberta Abbott of Ontario and Beryl Hoddinott of St. John's, close family Derrick Abbott (Elaine) and children D.J. and Cassandra of Musgrave Harbour (with whom she resided with for 20 years) and Karen Abbott (Graham) and child Shannon of Ontario, for nephews Jim Abbott (Pearl) of Musgrave Harbour, Paul Hoddinott (Donna) of St. John's, Terry Hoddinott (Rene) of Ontario, and Roland Hoddinott (Angus) of New Glasgow, one niece Sharon Grainger (Chris) of Ottawa and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Saturday, July 9th, 2011 Ewart L. Pennell, age 74. Predeceased by his parents Althea (Hicks) and Leslie Pennell. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Levetia Pennell (Chaulk), sons Colin (Betty), Weldon (Cavelle), Keith (Kathy), Brian (Julie), Roger (Tracy), daughters Nadine (David) Froude, Kathy (Rod) Ellsworth, brother Roy (Helen), sisters Marie (Reg) Tulk, Betty (Clarence) Hodder, Louise (Gordon) Brinson, grandchildren Jaden, Chelsea, Trinty, McKenzie, Tamara, Taylore, Ashley, Dillon, Drew, Lucas, Matt, Brandon, Sheridan, Holly, great-grandchildren Tyrese, Mariah, Aiden, and a large circle of family and friends. WINDSOR, Ruby -
Passed away on July 12, 2011 at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, St. John's after a short battle with cancer, Ruby Winsor of Wesleyville age 76 years. Predeceased by her husband; Harold, sisters; Frances McGowan and Genevieve Prise and brother; Benjamin Ford. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are; daughter; Shirley (Henry Andrews) of Mount Pearl, sons; Sam (Isabelle) of Carmanville, Alex (Imelda) of St. John's, Glen (Angela) of Glovertown, 9 grandchildren; Jennifer, Heather (Michael Vickers) & Stephen Andrews, Jeffrey (Cayla), David (Allison) Winsor, Mark, Sarah, Janine and Alex Winsor, 3 great-grandchildren; Ewan & Stella Vickers and Jack Winsor, sisters-in-law; Marie Winsor, Audrey (Bruce Gibbons), many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a large circle of neighbours and friends especially her United Church Women family. Special thanks to the Staff of the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion during her last few days. GEANGE, Alexander Stanley -
Passed away suddenly as a result of a tragic motor vehicle accident on July 13, 2011, age 71 years. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Laura (Vardy) Geange, father-in-law, William Raymond, brother-in-law Howard Strickland. Alex will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by wife Brenda, daughters Natalie Falk of St. John's, and Kim (Gordon) MacKinnon of Medicine Hat, AB; sons Ken (Gloria) of Appleton; and Doug (Heather) of Slave Lake, AB, as well as mother-in-law Eileen Raymond of Gander. Poppy will be sadly missed by precious grandchildren Matthew Matthews, Charles Falk (and his dad Charlie), Mathew and Alexandra MacKinnon, Brooklyn and Taeya Coesel-Geange, Jacob and Cole Geange, and great-granddaughter Leah Matthews. Also leaving to mourn are twin brother Bill (Agnes), brother, Maurice (Winnie), sisters, Genevieve Strickland and Hilda Gallant, brother-in-law, Jack Raymond, sister-in-law, Jean (Bill) Peckford, and brother-in-law, Ken (Ann) Raymond, as well as many other relatives and friends. Born in Glovertown, Alex grew up in Gander. He began his airline career with Eastern Provincial Airways in Gander, transferring to Nova Scotia from 1986 to 1989 and retiring from Air Canada in Vancouver in 1995. Upon his return to Newfoundland in 1997, he taught his sheet metal trade in the Aircraft Maintenance Program at the College of the North Atlantic in Gander for five years. Alex enjoyed his retirement to the fullest spending time with his family as well as golfing, fishing, hunting, reading, and sports. A Celebration of Life in Alex's honour took place at Fraser Road United Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any donations in Alex's memory to be made to the Cancer Clinic at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander. PARSONS, Thomas -
October 9, 1936- July 14, 2011.
Thomas Parsons
of Badger's Quay passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on Thursday July 14th, 2011 at the age of 74 years. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Parsons of Indian Bay. In December, 1957 he became a Lay Reader. Thomas worked with Lundrigan's for 29 years as a concrete foreman, he worked in Churchill Falls and help build the GBS Hibernia structure. He is predeceased by brothers Caleb, sister Josie, brother-in-law George. He leaves to mourn his wife (Jean), children; Roger (Sharon) Parsons, Zora (Cliff) Stagg, Roy (Bonnie) Parsons, Brian Parsons, and Tracey (Monty) Norris, grandchildren; Lee (Tracy), Kevin (Reena), Keith (Lisa Marie), Bradley (Natasha), Ryan (Katelyn), Skylair, Sheldon, Nowell, brother Winston, sisters; Shirley and Madeline predeceased by her husband Wilbur, Rebecca (Stanley), father in law- Charlie Janes, Sr. predeceased by wife Elizabeth and a large circle of nieces and nephews. Thomas will be greatly missed by a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at Sincerely Yours Funeral Home in New-Wes-Valley on Friday July 15, 2:00 to 4:00, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 16 10:00 to 12:00, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Rev. John E. K. Nicolle officiated the Funeral service at St. Alban's Anglican Church Sunday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. Followed by internment at the St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery. AYLWARD, William L. (Bill) -
Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home on Saturday July 16, 2011. Bill Hayward aged 97 years. Retired Air Canada- Gander employee and long time member of Knights of Columbus. Predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Marie Isabelle and sister, Kathleen Simon. Leaving to mourn with precious memories, son Joe of St. John's, NL: daughters; Doreen (Reg) Bowering of Mt. Pearl, NL; Betty (Andy) Gover of Lower Sackville, N.S.; Linda (Ken)Ryan of Mt. Pearl, NL.; Ann (Derek)Wells of Calgary, AB.; Susan (Don) McNeil of Red Island, N.S.; Helen (Larry) Marsh of Gander, NL. Also leaving with cherished memories his beloved grandchildren: Karen, David and Daniel Bowering, Stephen, Christopher and Jessica Gover, Kevin and Matthew Ryan, Lindsey and Tracey Wells, Joanna and Joseph McNeil, Gregory and Julia Marsh; three great grand children whom he adored; Morgan and Rachael Reynolds and Brooklynn Budden . WELCHER, Ivan -
May 21, 1961- July 17, 2011.
Ivan Welcher
of Valleyfield passed away on Sunday July 17, 2011 in Slave Lake, Alberta at the age of 50 years. Ivan Dean Welcher was born to Elizabeth and Peter Welcher on May 21st, 1961, he was the youngest of nine children. Ivan is predeceased by his loving mother & father and sister Bonnie. He leaves to mourn his wife Wanda, daughter Sheena, two granddaughters; Brianna and Jasmine, four brothers; Stanley predeceased by his wife Betty, Herb (Rita), Ralph (Loretta), Hayward (Carmel), three sisters; Violet (Joe), Mildred predeceased by her husband Richard, and Joan. Ivan will be greatly missed by a large number of nieces and nephews and many friends. Visitation was held at Sincerely Yours Funeral Home in New-Wes-Valley on Friday July 22, 2:00 to 5:00, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 23, 1:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Rev.
