COATES, Robert Wayne –
Passed away suddenly on July 3, 2008 in Appleton at 51 years. Predeceased by his father, Ivan Coates. Left with loving memories are his mother, May Coates; brothers, Perry, Gerald, Lloyd and Earl Coates; sisters, Elizabeth, Judy, Joanne and their extended families; special aunt, Faith Coates; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. FOGWILL, Bruce –
Passed peacefully away on July 3, 2008 at his home in Gander, Bruce Fogwill, aged 78 years. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Bridget Fogwill; brother, Bill and sisters, Cabini and Louise. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Ethel; sons, Daryl of St. John’s, Paul of Wabush; daughters, Carol Ann (Brian) of St. John’s, Cabrini (Sea) of London, ON; brothers, Frank of St. John’s, Irving of US.A. and sister, Mary of Walla, USA; grandchildren, Andrew, Steven, Matthew and Nathan, also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass took place on July 7th from the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic church. LEDREW, Triffie Blanche –
Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on July 4, 2008 at the age of 61, Mrs. Triffie LeDrew of Gander, formerly of Change Islands. Predeceased by her mother, Ivy (Penny) Hart; her father, Chesley Hart; daughter, Pamela; brother, Scott Hart; foster father, Leslie Morgan and father-in-law, Sidney LeDrew. Left to mourn her husband, John; daughters, Angela (Ron) and Roxanne (Jack); son, Melvin (Lorranda); grandchildren, Kayla, Vincent, Ruby, Meghan, Lucas, Pamela, Christopher, Crystal and Jonathan; brother, Hedley (Joyce); sister, Isabel (Garry); sister-in-law, Shirley; foster mother, Blanche Morgan; foster brother, Danny; mother-in-law, Dorcas LeDrew and a large circle of family and friends.

PRITCHETT, Jean (nee Green) –
Born in Safe Harbour on September 15th, 1924, Jean and her husband, Jesse worked and raised their family in Gander until retirement when they moved to Gambo. For the last 3 months Jean has quietly battled the pain and discomfort of stomach cancer. She was released from her suffering on July 5, 2008 at home in the presence of her son and daughter-in-law. Jean is predeceased by her husband of 49 years. She will be missed by her two sons, Frazer and Glynn and daughter-in-law, Linda; also 5 grandchildren, Karen, Grant, Steve, Devin and Ryan, all in Ontario. She leaves behind her sister, Eleanor Spurrell and brother, Jack Green, both in Ontario. Her passing has saddened wonderful friends and neighbors in Gambo, who have certainly given her support and been an extended family over the years. Much appreciation for the excellent care given by the overworked and understaffed nurses and doctors at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander. Also to Daphne Crane Burt, Social Services, JPMH; Ruth Wall, End of Life Care and Joan Thorwood, Horwoods Home Care, both of Grand Falls. Mary Oram who supported Jean’s family at home. Many thanks to Majors Darryl and Cathy Simms and Kevin Pritchett. Resting at Pritchett’s Funeral Home, Gambo. Visitation was Sunday July 6th, 2-9 and Monday 9-9. Funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadel in Gambo on Tuesday, July 8th at 2pm followed by interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery. SAUNDERS, Gertrude Mildred –
Passed peacefully away on July 6, 2008 at her home in Gambo, Aunt Gertie, as she was known by, was predeceased by her husband, Allan Saunders; her son, John James; her sisters, Annie, Lucy, Cecelia and Lenora (Lennie) and her brothers, Robert and Eli. She left to mourn her sons, Vincent and Jack and her daughters, Effie (Barkhouse), Norma (Skiffington), Helena Joy (MacMillan), Faye and Donna (Kane). She also left behind fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to take this opportunity to thank Glenda Cote, Theresa Pritchett, Viola Gill, Sharon Norman and Janice Oram for their loving care of our mother. Also thank you to Dr. Button and Dr. Samson for their assistance. A special thank you to Madeline Burry and Ettie Saunders for all the times they visited their old friend. A special thank you to Reverend Betty of St. George’s Anglican Church for her kindness and support. We wish to express our appreciation to all. For your thoughtful expressions and prayers through the celebration of our mother’s life.

Bursey, Gordon Leroy (Roy) –
Passed peacefully away on July 11, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gordon Leroy (Roy) Bursey, age 77 years. Predeceased by parents, Richard and Alma Bursey, sister, Lila, brother, Reginald. Left to mourn, sisters, Stella Button (Garland), Sandra Fisher (Roy); brothers, Roland (Aletta), Leswere (Janice), Leonard (Lorraine); nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Wendy, Lisa, Wanda, Melanie, Sharon, Theresa, Derek, Garland, Glenn, Jeffrey, Dwayne, Bryan, Keith, Chris, Danny and Jimmy. Also left to mourn a large circle of relatives and friends, and special friends, Jennifer Corrie of Toronto and Christine Whalen of Trinity. Funeral service was held from Bethany United Church, Catalina on July 14th at 2 pm. Interment at United Church Cemetery, Catalina. GREENE, Brian James – July 17, 1954 – July 11, 2008 –
Passed away suddenly at his home in Mississauga, ON on July 11, 2008, Brian James Greene. Predeceased by his mother, Grace Greene. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his father, Howard Greene of Gander. He will be sadly missed by siblings, Howie, Jr. of Gander, Tim (Patricia) of Courunna, ON, John (Bev) of Gander, Barry (Marion) of St. John’s, Gerard of Bancroft, ON; sisters, Cavelle of Vancouver, BC, Anne Marie of St. John’s; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. WILKINS, Russell Sr. –
Passed peacefully away on July 13, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Russell Wilkins, Sr. aged 82 of Gambo (originally Wesleyville). Predeceased by his wife, Amanda (nee Quinlan); brother, Thomas Wilkins and sisters, Rebecca Sturge and Eliza Mullett. Left to mourn, sons, Russell (Myrtle), Dennis (Mae), Wayne (Trudy) Derrick (Judy), Roger (Gail), Brian (Shirley), Darren (Amanda) and Claude (Lana); daughters, Sharon (Tony Legge), Debbie (Hilary Arnold), Linda (Eric Taite), Eileen (Frank Davis), Denise (Jerry Cashin) and Dolly (Darrel Preston). He also left behind 38 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Roland and his sister, Elsie (Forsey Bowers). The funeral was held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Gambo on July 16th. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Gambo. IVANY, Susan Linda –
It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Ivany announce her sudden and tragic death in a motorcycle accident in Gander on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the age of 47. Predeceased by her parents, Violet and Wallace Ivany; baby brother, father-in-law, Martin (Max) Edwards. Left devastated and with a broken heart, her husband, Paul Edwards of Gander. Also left to mourn, her daughter, Sara (Mike) Brownhill of Cyprus; son, Nicholas Gallant of Edmonton, stepson, Scott Edwards of St. John’s; sisters, Carol (Austin) Adams of Shoal Harbour, Marlie Ivany (Craig Dunn) of Gander; mother-in-law, Betty Edwards of Gander, sister-in-law, Jean Edwards Stacey (Peter) of St. John’s; brothers-in-law, Peter Edwards of Vancouver and Kenny (Jung Ae) Edwards of Pusan, Korea. Also a large circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Saturday, 11 a.m. at the United Church in Gander. VINCENT, Raymond –
Passed peacefully away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger’s Quay, Raymond Vincent, age 88 years of Newtown. Predeceased by his parents, Allan and Jane Vincent; brothers, Bramwell Vincent and Darius Vincent; sisters, Amy Bungay, Joy White and Neta Goodyear; infant granddaughter. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife, Minnie; sons, Thomas (Mildred) of Newtown, Jerry (Wanda) of Scarborough, ON; daughters, Rev. Roberta Vincent-Bungay (Rev. Lorne) of Greens Harbour, Norma King (Tony) of Valleyfield, Judy Hillier (Carl) of Newtown; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at Trinity United Church, Newtown on July 19th with Rev. Heather Sandford officiating, assisted by Rev. Vera Abbott. Interment followed at the United Cemetery, Newtown. COLLINS, Alma –
Passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Glenbrook Lodge in St. John’s, Mrs. Alma Collins of Carmanville in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband, John; parents, Eli and Lucy Reid; three daughters, Jacqueline Cull, Vera Young and Pansy Maxine Collins; two brothers, John Reid and Claude Reid; two sisters. Myrtle Dawe and Laura Holloway; great-grandson, Blair Mitchell and grand-daughter-in-law, Raylene Cull. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her five sons, Wallace Collins (Wilhelmine) of St. John’s, Gordon Collins (Wilhelmine) of Carmanville, Clayton Collins (Lois) of Twillingate, Winston Collins (Patsy) of St. John’s and Larry Collins (Hazel) of Kelligrews; two daughters, Audrey Collins (Roy) of Carmanville and Maisie Hicks (Eugene) of Carmanville; two sons-in-law, John Young of Musgravetown and Reg Cull of St. John’s; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on July 23rd from the United Church in Carmanville. Interment followed from the United Church Cemetery in Carmanville with Rev. Chris Andrews officiating. FUDGE, Tyson B (20) –
Passed away unexpectedly July 21, 2008 on Grand Manan Island, NB, Tyson B. Fudge. Tyson had a great love and passion for reading, his computer and spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind his loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Goldie Fudge; his brother, Sheldon of Grand Harbour; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and Thelma Fudge, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin and Mable Ginn, both of Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visiting was held from the Immanuel Pentecostal Assembly for immediate family on Thursday; friends and neighbours were invited on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm for visiting hours with Tyson’s family. The funeral service was held from the church on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Williston officiating, interment followed at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Tyson’s family has requested donations may be made to the Immanual Pentecostal Assembly or the Grand Manan Museum in his memory. THORNHILL, W. Maxwell –
Passed peacefully away on Monday, July 21, 2008 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Max Thornhill of Gander in his 88th year. Left with fond and loving memories his devoted wife, Elsie of 58 years. Also left with loving memories are his brother, Lloyd (Patsy) of St. John's; brother-in-law, Hedley Saunders of Corner Brook, as well as 24 nieces and nephews and 41 grand-nieces and nephews, also a large circle of friends. Predeceased by his sister, Florence Parsons 1980 and his brother, Percy 1994. Max was a Flight Officer in the RAF WWII and long serving member of the Boy Scouts of Canada. He was well known to family and friends as “Uncle Max” and will be sadly missed by all. Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from Fraser Road United Church. Interment All Saints Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations in Max's memory may be made to the Central Northeast Health Foundation or Fraser Road United Church. Passed peacefully away on July 29, 2008, at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Audrey Stuckless (nee Frost), aged 84 years. Predeceased by her parents, W. B. Frost and Alice Frost; grandson, Corey; brothers, Harry, James, Reginald, and Frank and sister, Florrie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, John Stuckless; daughters, Madelaine (Bert Rogers), Judy (Reinhold Kowaluk) and Ruth (Leigh Daniels); grandchildren, Connie, Charlene, Chadrick, Christopher, Marc, Jade and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jamie, Riley and Tyler; brothers, Bert (Ann) Frost of Gander, NL, Raymond (Hazel) Frost of PEI and Melvin (Betty) Frost of Gander, NL and sister, Louise (Bud Purchase) of St. John's, NL. Rested at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral service was held on July 31st at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Gander followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery, Gander.
