PARSONS, Baxter
Passed away peacefully at Brookfield Hospital on Tuesday, January 2, 2008, Baxter Parsons, age 82 years of Badger’s Quay. Predeceased by his wife, Julia; parents, John and Clementine Parsons; brothers, John and William; sisters, Mary Carter, Bessie Burry and Josephine Parsons. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons, Reginald (Shirley) of Valleyfield and Gary (Jackie) of Mt. Pearl; daughters, Doreen Coward (George) of Greenspond and Bessie Froude (Raymond) of New Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on Saturday, January 5th at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Badger’s Quay with Rev. Robin Trevors officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery, Greenspond. WEST, Myrtice
Passed peacefully away on January 2, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Myrtice West, age 80 years. Predeceased by parents, Bessie & Wilfred Wellon, brother, Jack Wellon. Left with loving memories are her husband, Garfield (residing at Riverview Retirement Home, Gander Bay); son, Norman (Dianne) of Carmanville; daughters, Linda (David) Clarke of Gander, Evelyn (Cecil) LeBlanc of North Bay, ON., Penny (Eric) Gill of Gander; brother, Harvey (Violet) Wellon of Ladle Cove; sister, Phyllis Ross (Aubrey deceased) of Wolfville, NS; granddaughter, Carrie Lee West of Carmanville; special friend, Neta Davis of Lakeside Homes, Gander; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Bonnews Lodge in the presence of her Lord and loving family, Mabel Burry (King) age 81 years. Predeceased by her husband, Eric (Dec. 16, 2007); great-grandson, Jackson Phillips (March 2007); also her parents, John and Ruth King (Dyke); brother, William King. Left to cherish her memory is her family; son, Clayton and Eva (Lisa and Jason) of St. John’s; son, Clifford and Jeanette (Philip, Jonathan, Paul and Jennifer) of Sask; daughter, Patricia Loder and Boyd (Thurman, Tyson and Melissa) of Mt. BRIFFETT, Josephine
Passed peacefully away on January 12, 2008 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Josephine Briffett of Glovertown in her 99th year. Her funeral took place at Faith United Church, Glovertown on January 15th. She is predeceased by her husband, John; three sisters, four brothers; and one great-grandchild. She leaves to mourn daughters, Betty (Wilf) Parsons of Bloomfield, May (Ray) Babstock of Happy Adventure; son, Robert (Judy) of Glovertown; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Donations may be made in her memory to Faith United Building Fund.

GILL, Alice Marie
Passed peacefully away on January 12, 2008, Mrs. Alice Marie Gill of Biggar, Saskatchewan, formerly of Myrnam, at the age of 72 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Gerry; five daughters and one son, Debra Gill, Heather Gill and Cherri (Ron) Delmage, all of Yellowknife, NWT, Pat (Mitch) Chychul of Myrnam, Barb (Russell) Smereka of St. Paul and John (Christine) Gill of Edmonton; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Christa, Brandie, Corey, Jordan, Travis and Briana; three sisters and one brother, Lillian Gilbert, Gertrude Banfield, Frances Toms and Ralph Angel; also numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Blanche Angel; three brothers, Ernest, Edward and Ashmore Angel; and grandson, Shane Chychul. A Celebration of Alice’s life was held Thursday, January 17th at Yewchin’s Funeral Chapel, St. Paul. Reverend Keith Marsh officiated and cremation followed. Shelley, Garfield
Passed away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on Monday, January 14, 2008, Garfield Shelley, age 76 years of Aspen Cove. Predeceased by his parents Hiram and Lucy and sister, Mary Mouland. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Alice of 57 years; sons, Chris (Phyllis) of Conception Bay and Morley (Cathy) of Aspen Cove; one daughter, Lesa Easton (Warren) of Gander; 8 grandchildren, Christa, Nancy, Matthew, Sarah, Marissa, Shayla, Rebecca, Nathan and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 17th at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, Aspen Cove Interment followed at the Jehovah’s Witness Cemetery, Ladle Cove with Mr. Roy Watton officiating. GOULDING, Eric
The family of Eric Goulding are saddened to announce Eric’s passing on January 15, 2008. Surrounded by his family, Eric passed away in palliative care at the L.A. Miller Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61 years old. Eric is predeceased by his son, Carl (September 25, 2006); his father, Roland Goulding and his brother, Carl. Eric’s passing is mourned by his wife, Bonnie and his daughter, Kelly (Danny) Scaplen and two grandsons, Tyler and Ryan. Eric also leaves to mourn his mother, Florrie and his brothers and sisters, Maude Kelloway, Doreen (Max) Ryan, Ray (Lynn) Goulding, Marjorie (Winston) Carter, June (Tony) Hunt, Lorne (Brenda) Goulding, Janice (Doug) Lush, Cheryl (Cameron) Kelly and Alvin Goulding. Also mourning Eric’s passing are his brothers and sisters-in-law, frank (Bridget) Kelly, Pat Kelly, Bill (Karm) Kelly, Kevin (Elva) Kelly, Gordon ( Enid) Kelly, Don (Fran) Kelly, Kay Carter, Loretta (David) Perry, Rita (George) Kinden and Marie (Rick) Goldrup. Also mourning Eric’s passing is a large contingent of cousins, other relatives, many close friends and all members of the Gambo Fire Department. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Caul’s Funeral Home at 84 LeMarchant Road in St. John’s and Pritchett’s Funeral Home in Gambo. In recognition of his 40 years of dedicated service to the Gambo Fire Department, Eric also rested at the Fire Hall in Gambo. Funeral services were held in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Gambo on Friday, January 18th with interment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

STURGE, Winnie Dorothy
Passed peacefully away on January 16, 2008 at Brookfield Hospital, Winnie Dorothy Sturge, age 87 years of Wesleyville. Predeceased by her husband, Job; parents, Edward and Amelia Winsor; brothers, George and Edward; brother-in-law, John Winsor (Jack); sons-in-law, Malcolm Parsons and Hubert Sturge; sister-in-law, Gladys Winsor. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are seven sons, Cluny (Winnie) of Wesleyville, George (Lillian) of Paradise, Edward (Margaret ) of Badger’s Quay, Lloyd of Oshawa, Ont, Brian (Beverly) of Torbay, Barry of Wesleyville, Randy (Rhonda) of Wesleyville, 5 daughters; Winnifred Sturge of Wesleyville, Joyce (Barry Donavan) of St. John’s, Mottie Parsons of Wesleyville, Geneva (Clyde Knee) of Badger’s Quay, Glenda Sturge (David) of Mount Pearl, one sister; Violet Winsor residing at Bonnews Lodge, Badger’s Quay; one sister-in-law; Whilemina Winsor of Cupids, 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 19th at the Salvation Army Citadel New-Wes-Valley with Captains Sheldon and Ashley Bungay officiating. PECKFORD, Wilbur G. –
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 2:45 am, Wilbur George Peckford, age 85 years of Clarke’s Head, Gander Bay. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Alice Peckford; brothers, Heber, Arthur, Leslie, and Andrew; sisters, Rita, Effie, Annie, Louise, Marjorie, Olive, Lucy; and granddaughter, Tammy Harbin-Hayes. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his devoted wife, Flora; sons, Evelyn (Maisie), David (Karen), Calvin, Clifford (Rosie); daughters, Yetta Vivian (Arthur), Annie Harbin (William), Ivy Francis (Junior), Verna and Renee; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Hubert (Tilley) and Gilbert (Violet); sister, Nellie Downer (Peter); other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Wing’s Point on January 20th with Rev. Yvonne thistle officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Clarke’s Head. FRANCIS, Claude
Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Claude Francis, aged 82 years. Predeceased by his wife Rosabelle on April 12, 1965. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons, Eugene (Janet)of Seberingville, ON, Rayfield (Susan) of Stratford, ON, Eric of Stratford, ON, Brad (Sherry) of Fort McMurray, AB and Henry (Joanne) of Tavistock, ON; daughters, Mallisa (Glen Bath) of Gander Bay South, NL and Pansey (Gerald Blake) of Gander Bay South, NL; brother, Stanley of Holyrood, NL, 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well as a large number of family and friends. Funeral service was held on January 25th from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Wing's Point followed by interment at the Anglican Cemetery at Clarke's Head. Passed peacefully away on January 22, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mary Dooley, aged 88 years. Predeceased by her husband, Jack; parents, Albert and Elizabeth Burden; sister, Rhoda; brother-in-law, Ron Johnson; brother, Clifford; sister-in-law, Joan Burden; brother-in-law, Lloyd Wells. FITZPATRICK, Matthew Francis
Passed peacefully away on January 30, 2008 at Chancellor Park, St. John's, Matthew Francis Fitzpatrick, aged 85. Formerly a resident of Gander, retiree of Gander Aeradio after 34 years of service, member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, St. Joseph's Church Choir, the Six Pack Singers, and a longtime community volunteer. Predeceased by his wife, Julia (Dunphy) and son, Michael. Leaving to mourn his sons, Brian, Glen and Jamie; grandchildren, Morgain, Ann, Julia, Rachel, Laura, Matthew and James; daughters-in-law, Jackie and Danine; brother, William as well as many other relatives, friends, and retirees from “Signals.” Resting at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral Mass was held Friday, February 1st, at 2:00 P.M. from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Lillian Skinner; infant children, Jeffery and Corrine; sisters, Phyllis and Muriel; brother-in-law, Freeman Chaulk. POWELL, Eli
Passed peacefully away on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Eli Powell of Bay Watch Manor in Glovertown, formerly of Happy Adventure, aged 97 years. Predeceased by his brothers, Max, Harry, Emore and Prince. Left to mourn are his wife, Doris Powell (nee Reid); children, Joyce (Art Quinton), Audrey (Ralph Arnold), Doug (Blanche Elliott) and Billy. He also left to mourn seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The service took place on January 30 th from the Good Shepherd United Church in Happy Adventure. Interment followed at Holy Cross, Good Shepherd Cemetery in Eastport. Donations may be made to the Good Shepherd United church or to the cemetery fund.

ORAM, Christopher Wade
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our dear loved one, Christopher Wade Oram, age 32 years of Badger’s Quay, on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at sea. Wade is predeceased by his father, Llewellyn, stepfather, Eric Spurrell Sr.(Skip). He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Tanya; daughters, Ocean and Tara; mother, Harriett Spurrell of Badger’s Quay; brother, Llewellyn (Joan); sisters, Elaine Oram (Clifford), Sylvia Janes (Fred) - all of Badger’s Quay; mother and father-in-law, Eileen and Woodrow Kelloway of Wesleyville; brothers-in-law, Sheldon Kelloway (Marlene), Desmond Kelloway (Jackie) - all of Ft. McMurray; sister-in-law, Amanda Kelloway (Brad) of Wesleyville; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces; and many other relatives and friends. 69 of Lumsden passed away tragically at sea on Thursday, January 31, 2008. Predeceased by mother; Olive Parsons and father-in-law; Charles White. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Elizabeth, sons, Glenn (Cyndy-Ann) of Mount Pearl, Merlin of Grande Prairie, AB., Adrian (Amanda) of Toronto, Ont., Wade (Carol Ann ) of Goose Bay, and Scott (Melanie) of Edmonton, AB; daughters, Laurie (Ed White) of San Diego, CA, USA, Ardella ( Dean Fowler) of Nanaimo, B.C., and Marquita (Dale Taylor) of Fort McMurray, AB; father, Wilson Parsons of Lumsden, mother- in-law; Myrtle White of Goose Bay, 12 grandchildren and a very large circle of family and friends.
