Passed peacefully away on January 2, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre, George Mills Billard of St. John's, originally of Port-aux-Basques, age 71 years. Predeceased by grandchild Usha-Lynn Pike of Corner Brook; sister, Margaret Sexsmith of Peterborough, Ontario and parents, Fred and Gladys Billard of Port-aux-Basques. Left to mourn his loving wife of 46 years, Myra (nee Cook) of St. John's; daughter, Lynette (Joe) Kowaichuk of Denare Beach, Saskatchewan; sons, David (Josephine) Billard of St. John's and Darryl (Helen) Billard of Winnipeg, Manitoba; grandchildren, Rebecca Pike (Mike Stratychuk) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stephen and Adam Billard of St. John's; great-grandchild, Ashlea Stratychuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba; brothers, Ralph (Kay) Billard of St. John's, Clayton (Violet)Billard of Rose Blanche, Robert (Leona) Billard of Oakville, Ontario and Roy (Rosemary) Billard of Sidney, British Columbia; sisters, Phyllis (Edgar) Richards of Corner Brook, Joan (Ron) Lee of St. John's, Ruth (Fred) Jarmen of Cambridge, Ontario and Vivian Fleming of Halifax, NS; sisters-in-law, Sandra (David) Butler of Guelph, Ontario, Glenda (Jim) Strong of Ottawa, Ontario, Paul (Bert) Powell of Barrie, Ontario; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Barrett's Funeral Home, St. John's. Funeral service was held on January 5th at St. Mary's Anglican Church, St. John's. As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be most appreciated.

PITTMAN, Edmund -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edmund Pittman announce his passing on Friday, January 2, 2004 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, in his 94th year. Left with loving memories are his wife of 70 years, Carmen, two sons Walter (Bud) (Dorothy) of Gander, NL, and Edward (Trudy) of Dartmouth, NS, two daughters, Ruby (Andy Comeau) of Calgary, AL, and Eileen (Donald) Parrish of Clements Port, NS, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also many other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 5th, 2004 from St. Martin`s Anglican Church. Gander. Interment followed at All Saints Cemetery, Gander. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Stacey`s Funeral Home, Gander.

ST. CROIX, Hubert (Hugh) George -
Passed peacefully away in St. John's, Newfoundland on January 6, 2004, Hubert (Hugh) George St. Croix, age 59 years. Predeceased by his father, Thomas; infant brother, Joseph; and father-in-law, Raymond Bertrand. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Dianne (nee Bertrand); daughter, Michelle Eagles (Brent); sons, Leigh (Sherri) and Chris; granddaughter, Emily Eagles; grandson, Jacob Eagles; mother, Mary St. Croix; sisters, Kay Myrick (Kevin Curtis), Shirley Bradbury (Bob), Agnes Boye-Doe (Alex); brothers, Frank (Ingrid), Tom (Patsy Burke), Roger (Darlene), Reg; mother-in-law, Hazel Bertrand; sister-in-law, Viva Harrison (Ernie); as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rested Caul's Funeral Home, St. John's. Funeral mass was held on January 20th at Holy Redeemer Church, Trepassey. Cremation to follow.

SHEPPARD, Phyllis -
Passed away at Brookfield Hospital, on January 7, 2004, Mrs. Phyllis Sheppard of Carmanville in her 84th year. Predeceased by her one brother and six sisters. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Douglas; one son, Carl (Jackie) of La Scie; three daughters, Linda Gaultois of Kippens, Marie Fifield (Pete) of Wesleyville and Ruby Connors (Ron) of Burlington, Ont.; 10 grandchildren, Brad, P.J. Andrew, Andrea, Greg, Stephen, Robert, Aldonna, Jamie and Randy; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sam and Dayton; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 10th at the United Church in Carmanville. Interment took place at the United Church Cemetery in Carmanville. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home, Carmanville/Gander.

TAVENOR, Dulcie (nee Collins) -
Passed suddenly away in Gander on January 8, 2004, Dulcie Tavenor of Hare Bay, age 63 years. Predeceased by her father, Robert and her brothers, Almore, Stewart and Chesley. Left with fond and loving memories are her son, Roy (Cathy); three daughters, Donna (Maurice), Kim (Ed), Lori (Darren); 13 grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Michael, Eddie, Justin, Stephen, Jonathan, Rebecca, Darian, DJ, Ambert, JC and Jayden; mother, Levina; sisters, Frances (Bill), Margaret (Reg), Dorothy (Ron), Eileen (Elvis); brothers, Oswald, Max, Cecil (Maxine), Eddie (Rosalind); sister-in-law, Louise; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Oram's Funeral Home, Dover. Funeral service was held on January 12 at the Salvation Army Church, Hare Bay by Majors Barry and Donna Anstey. Interment followed at Salvation Army Cemetery, Hare Bay. As an expression of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

GENGE, Vivian Marguerite (nee Ralph), 1921 - 2004 -
Passed suddenly, but peacefully, away in the arms of Jesus on the evening of January 11, 2004, at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's, Marguerite Genge of Glovertown, in her 82nd year. Predeceased by parents, Mildred and Edmund Ralph, husband, Clarence of 55 years, and infant daughter, Janice. Left with cherished memories are sons, Jim of Glovertown, Ed (Barb nee Greening) of Clarenville, Graham (Toni nee Collins) of Calgary; daughters, Joan Pitts (Everett) of Springdale, Rosalind English (Denis) of Mount Pearl, Sandy Hodder (Chris) of Gander; grandchildren, Lesley and Kerry Genge, Lee and Janice Pitts, Sherry Medlicott, Heidi Snell and Ginger Genge, Joey English, Riley and Alexander Hodder; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Joel, Sean and Daniel Snell. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Joan Bradley (husband, Ray, deceased) of St. John's, and Doris Bull (husband, Colin, deceased) of Easport; brother-in-law, Herbert Genge (Irene) of Glovertown; many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of relatives and friends, particularly, Bruce and Ruby Penney. Funeral service was held on January 15th at Glovertown Pentecostal Tabernacle with interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to her foster child, Winly Banda, living in Zambia, c/o ChildCare Plus, the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, 2450 Milltower Court, Mississauga, Ontario, L5N 5Z6 (please label your donation as a gift and include Donor #55775 and Child #9501).
Marguerite was a former school teacher as well as a community and church volunteer especially with the Red Cross. Her strong family values and her faith in God will be held forever in the hearts of those who knew her. Forever loved, forever missed.

Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital, on January 12, 2004, John Stephen Fifield of Wesleyville, age 87 years. Predeceased by his wife, Sophie; daughters, Minnie and Mazie; brothers, Samuel and Randolph; and sister, Mazie. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons, Gerald (Helena) of Corner Brook, Melvin (Susie) of Wesleyville, Martin (Beverly) of Saskatchewan, Samuel (Maxine) of Wesleyville; daughters, Annie (James Squires) of St. John's, Bernice (Carl Stokes) of Cape Freels; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Beulah Fifield of Badger's Quay, Allie Fifield of Hare Bay; son-in-law, Bill Hillier of Newtown; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 15th at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove with Capt. Paul Rideout officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Wesleyville. HOUNSELL, Isabel -
Passed peacefully away on January 15, 2004 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Isabel Hounsell (nee Kelloway-Norris), three days short of her 89th birthday. Predeceased by her first husband, William Norris (1953), and her second husband, Baxter Hounsell (1995). Left to mourn are her five children, Mabel Norris (Len), Sarah Chafe (George), Louise Gibbons (Don), Sandy Hounsell (Maisie), David Norris (Theresa); 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Whilemena Dodge, Emma Pearce; brother, Aubrey Kelloway; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 19th at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Pound Cove. Interment followed at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary's Church, Pound Cove. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove.

HUMPHRIES, Irene -
Passed peacefully away on January 15, 2004 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Irene Humphries, age 80 years, who resided at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, formerly of Valleyfield. Predeceased by her husband, Charles (1973); brothers, Lawrence, Herbert, Eric and Jack; sisters, Drucilla and Maisie; sister-in-law, Marion; and brother-in-law, John Norman. Left with fond and loving memories are her two sons, Eric (Joyce) of Gander, Randy (Debbie) of Manuels; brother, Esau (Mary) of Valleyfield; sister, Hilda (Alex Winsor) of Ottawa; sisters-in-law, Harriett of Badger's Quay, Emma of Valleyfield, Betty of Badger's Quay, Effie of Valleyfield; six grandchildren, Lori, Wanda, Joy Lee and Jim Brandon, Sarah and Cyndie; six great-children, Matthew, Allan, Eric, Jamie, Kira and Colby; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 18th at the United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Tony Cole officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Valleyfield. SHEA, Fronie L.P. -
Passed away on January 17, 2004 at QEII Health Sciences Centre, Fronie L.P. Shea of Bedford, NS, age 55. Born in Botwood, NL, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elsie (Rice) Swyers. She owned and operated Triple Town Cleaners for the last 15 years. Fronie was a very caring person, always there to help others. She enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Predeceased by her sister, Pansy Thompson. Surviving are her spouse, Harvey Fry; son, Rodney (Kathy) Shea of Glenwood, NL; grandchildren, Samantha and Stephanie Shea; daughter, Krista (Chad) MacDonald, Lower Sackville; sister, Betty Stoodley, Halifax; brothers, Warrick (Ruth) Swyers, NL, Roy (Jessie) Swyers, ON, Ron (Lorraine) Swyers, ON, Bruce (Violet) Swyers, ON, Allan Swyers, Halifax; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held on January 21st at the Salvation Army Church with Captain and Mrs. Decker officiating. A reception followed at the Church Hall. Cremation to follow and burial at a later date in Oakridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Church.

ABBOTT, Florrie -
Passed away at her residence in Musgrave Harbour on January 18, 2004, Mrs. Florrie Abbott in her 78th year. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Alfreda Hicks; son, Baxter, Jr.; son-in-law, Oliver Mouland; and two brothers, Frederick and Douglas. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Maxwell; two sons, Collin (Jacqueline) of Peterview, Boyd (Doris) of Musgrave Harbour; four daughters, Myrtis Mouland of Musgrave Harbour, Maxine Lewis (George) of Labrador City, Madeline Willis (Newman) of Fort McMurray, Alta., Yvonne Bungay (Raymond) of Musgrave Harbour; 16 grandchildren, Judy, Irving, Kim, Brent, Cory, Derrick, Darren, Dwayne, David, Tammy, Tanya, Trina, Marvin, Gavin, Brittany and Carly; 13 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kirby, Brady, Brianna, Cole, Owen, Devin, Madisson, Chantel, Courtney, Taylor, Makayla and Hunter; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 24th at the Salvation Army Citadel in Musgrave Harbour. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Musgrave Harbour. STURGE, Gertrude -
Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on January 18, 2004, Gertrude Sturge of Valleyfield, age 83 years. Predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, Hedley Spurrell and Albert Spurrell. Left with fond and loving memories are her sons, Bill of Valleyfield and Donald (Cheryl) and special grandson, Mark of Badger's Quay; sister, Evelyn Spurrell of Gander; sister-in-law, Grace Sturge of St. John's; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 20th at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Badger's Quay with Rev. John Watton officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Badger's Quay. BABSTOCK, George MacKenzie -
Passed peacefully away at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, on January 21, 2004, George M. (Kenz) Babstock in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his wife, Rita J. (Penny) in 1996, brother, Roy and sister, Jennie. Left to celebrate his life are son, Roy (Mary) of Eastport; grandsons, Steven (Nichola) of Dartmouth, NS and Peter (Angela) of Lower Sackville, NS; sister-in-law, Catherine Babstock of Eastport; 10 nephews; six nieces and other relatives and friends. Rested at Squire's Funeral Home, Eastport. Funeral service was held on January 23rd at Holy Cross Anglican Church, Eastport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Cross Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, Eastport.

PENNEY, Abner -
Passed peacefully away on January 21, 2004 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Abner Penney of Eastport, age 95 years. Predeceased by his wife, Minnie in 1999. Left to mourn are son, Harvey (Shirley) of Eastport; daughter, Marie Peters (Frank) of Dartmouth, NS; grandsons, Christopher (Diane), Allan (Michelle); granddaughter, Kristin Peters; sister-in-law, Nora Penney; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Lakeside Homes for their tremendous care over the past three years. Funeral service was held on January 23rd at Holy Cross Church with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Cross Cemetery Fund, Eastport.

WHEATON, William -
Passed peacefully away on January 22, 2004 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, William Wheaton, age 80 years. Predeceased by daughter, Mary Janet, in 1950. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Gladys; sons, Richard (Judy) of Kelligrews, NL, Reginald (Cynthia) of Appleton, NL, Lloyd (Cheryl) of Glenwood, NL, Maxwell (Joy) of Guelph, ON, and Roger (Cynthia) of Appleton, NL; two daughters, Barbara (Alfred Arsenault) of Miscouche, PEI and Phyllis (Carl Burry) of Gander; 13 grandchildren, Peter, Russell, Timothy, Kimberly, Lindsay, Jacqueline, James, Stephen, Jeffery, Jennifer, Stephanie, Matthew and Holly; four great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Madeline, Jacob and Emily; also a large number of relatives and friends. CHAULK, Lissitte -
Passed peacefully away on January 24, 2004 at Brookfield Hospital, Brookfield, Lissitte Chaulk of Hillcrest Manor, Musgrave Harbour, formerly of Aspen Cove, age 100. Predeceased by parents, Samuel and Mary Wellon; husband, Charlie; three sons, Rex, Kenneth and Wesley; sister, Effie Wellon; and four brothers, John, Wilfred, Ralph and George. Left with fond and loving memories are son, Frank (Yvonne) of Aspen cove; daughter, Florrie Meadwell (Rick) of Greenwood, Nova Scotia; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was held on January 27th at the United Church, Aspen Cove with Rev. Nancy Mojica-Fisher officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Aspen Cove. CHAFFEY, Harold -
Passed away suddenly at his home in Gander, on January 26, 2004, Harold Chaffey in his 78th year. Predeceased by brother, Jack; sister-in-law, Lanora, and brother-in-law, Watson Diamond. Left with warm and loving memories are loving wife, Sadie; sons, Bruce and wife, Mary of Gander; Eric of Gander; daughters, Grace and husband Chris Bryant of Carbonear, Daphne and husband, Tom Rafuse of Gander, Cathy and husband, Dave Mercer of Gander; sisters, Pearl and husband, Harvey Sheppard of St. John's, Violet Diamond of Lethbridge; grandchildren, Lori, Justin, Craig, Kayla, Taylor, Jenny, Chelsea and Adam; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on January 28th at the Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints United Cemetery, Gander. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. BURSEY, Mary (nee O`Brien) -
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander after a brief illness. Leaving to mourn her sister, Margaret Grant, St. John`s, as well as many nieces, nephews, stepchildren, other relatives and friends. Mary was a very kind and generous person who loved her family and friends dearly. She will be forever missed. Resting at Stacey`s Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral Mass to take place at St. Joseph`s Church Gander 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one`s choice. May she rest in peace.

KELLY, Ambrose (Ammy) -
Passed suddenly away in his 55th year, at St. Clare`s Hospital, St. John`s. Predeceased by his father John P. Kelly. Leaving with loving memories his wife of 34 years Bertha (Randell); daughter Lana (Claude) Wilkins; sons Dwayne (Kathy) and Dale (Tanya). Also leaving his mother Martha; brothers Leo, Gord, Tony; sisters Mary, Dorothy, Shirley, Stella, Betty, Marg, Mildred and spouses. Also leaving his precious grandchildren Stephen and Sarah Wilkins, Ashley Twyne, and Brett and Ryan; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was held on February 2nd at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic church, Gambo. Rested at Pritchett's Funeral Home, Gambo. Interment to follow. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
