ABBOTT, Joan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one Joan Abbott, age 70 years of Musgrave Harbour. Joan passed away at her residence on Friday, August 15, 2014. Predeceased by her parents Frank and Laura Abbott, brothers Claude Abbott and Thomas Abbott, and sister Gertie Sparks. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughters Laura-Lee (Vianney) of Ottawa, Ont, and Tanya of Musgrave Harbour, brother Frank (Cheryl) of High Level, AB, sisters Alice (Byron) of St. Anyhony and Rose (Austin) of Ladle Cove, three grandchildren Hunter Lidstone, Shelby Pinsent and Cash Pinsent, specials persons Mike Mouland, the sone she never had, Fonce Pinsent, Carlee Pearce was like another grandchild, Alesha (Reba) Abbott and Merdina Mouland (like two other daughters) and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at The Salvation Army Citadel, Musgrave Harbour on Monday, August 18, 2014 with Major Betty-Lou Topping officiating. BLACKWOOD, Cyril James (Jim)
Passed away suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, NL on Tuesday, Aug 12, 2014 Cyril James Blackwood, age 89 yrs. Predeceased by parents Fannie and Charles Blackwood. Leaving to mourn with many wonderful memories are his loving wife of 65 yrs Marie (Parsons); son Barry (Wilhelmina); granddaughters Angela and Adena (Danny); also a large circle of family and friends. CREWE, Harry
Passed away peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander on Friday, August 1st, 2014, Harry E. Crewe, age 75. Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Gosse. HIGGINS, Andrew
1942-2014

Andrew passed away suddenly in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the age of 72. Beloved husband of 46 years to Monica Higgins (Fahey). Loving father to Nelson (Marg) and Angela (Victor). Dearest poppy to Kayla, Lauren, Nathan, Tessa and Brittany. Predeceased by his parents John and Mary Higgins, sister Madge, and brothers Bern and Johnny. Survived and lovingly remembered by his brothers Frank (Sandra) from South Hampton, Ont., Len (Heather), Leo (Kay), Ron, sister Nell, and sister-in-law Meta all from Nfld. HURLEY, Audrey
Passed away peacefully in St. John's on August 2, 2014, Audrey June Hurley (nee Barretto) of Gander, age 83 years. Predeceased by parents Aloysius Barretto and Evelyn Vanderhide, husband Francis Kenneth (Michael) Hurley, and brother Brian Barretto. Audrey June was born in New Delhi, India, educated in England, and came to Newfoundland in 1957 as a nurse, working first in Stephenville Crossing and subsequently in Gander, where she settled in 1961 with her family. Left with loving memories her son Johnathan of Victoria, B.C., daughter Nancy and son-in-law Josiah Goodyear of Bedford, N.S., daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Christopher Aylward of St. John's, daughter Frances of Cambridge, Massachusetts, daughter Jane of Calgary, and grandchildren Zoƫ and Josiah Johnathan Goodyear, Fintan and Neria Aylward, Christopher and Sean Roach, Megan Roach and husband Jeremy Fidelack, and great-grandchildren Matthew, Beth, and Lucas Fidelack. Passed away at Lakeside Home, Gander, on August 29th, 2014, after a short illness, Derm Jackman, age 88 years. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Collins), and son Paul; parents Robert and Elsie, stepmother Angela (Martin); granddaughter Kelly; brothers: John, Robert and Frank; and sister Jean. Kenny, Alice (Marian)
, 60 years old of Sarnia, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 died in Sarnia, Ontario after a long struggle with illness. Born on February 17th, 1954 in St. John's, Newfoundland to Ted and Elizabeth (Murphy) Kenny. Survived by her longtime and devoted partner, William Cole, her daughter Gina Lewis (Graham Watts), and siblings Elizabeth Stack (Robert, dcsd), Anita Oicle (Ellery), Shirley Saunders (Bill), Matt Kenny (Gerry), Ed Kenny (Trudy), Joanne Ghaney (Larry), Sandy Giannou (David) as well as many loved nieces and nephews. She is remembered as a free and fun-loving spirit with incredible strength and compassionate love of animals. Donations can be made in her name to The Humane Society of Canada. of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Carmel Hospice on Friday, August 29, 2014, at the age of 78 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Joanne (Ray) Raw of Medicine Hat, Harry Knee and Rai Knee both of Edmonton; three grandchildren, Emma Knee and Haley Knee both of St. John's, Newfoundland and Alexis Knee of Edmonton; one brother, Stirling Lush and his wife Dr. Danielle Lavoie-Lush of Sept Iles, Quebec. She was predeceased by her parents, Isabel and Lawrence Lush and her daughter Deanna in infancy. ROBERTS, Mark S
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark S. Roberts on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Oakville, ON at the age of 48. He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara (Chapman), and two beautiful children, Shem and Eira. He is the beloved son of Ida and Joseph Roberts (deceased) of St. John's, NF and brother to Greg of Calgary, Barry and Kit (Ivany) of St. John's, Scott and Kerrie (Miller) in Prince George, Tony and Tara (Barker) in Calgary, his adoring sister, Terri and her husband, Troy Russell. Mark is loved by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, along with cousins throughout Canada and the US. He will be sadly missed by his Air Canada family, biking and hockey friends and the many lives he has touched. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday August 12, 2014 at Saint Dominic's Church in Oakville with a Memorial Mass to be held in St. John's at a later date. SAMSON, Claudine
Claudine Samson
died peacefully at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion in St. John's, NL, on 4 August 2014 at age 95. She was a long-time resident of Gander, and moved to Caribou Pavilion about 4 years ago. She had taught school for several years in Tacks Beach, Curling, and Pouch Cove prior to enlisting in the Canadian Air Force during World War II. She was stationed in Ottawa. After the war, she was an accountant for the Department of Transportation in Gander. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph A. and Melina Samson (of Flat Island, Bonavista Bay), her brothers, F. Scott Samson and Albert Samson, and her nephew, Albert Stone (of Jacksonville, FL). She is survived by her sister, Hilda M. Stone (of Colt's Neck, NJ); 6 beloved nieces and nephews (Roslyn Stone [John Wilson] of Pittsburgh, PA, Karen Stone [Vernon Nicodemus] of Seattle, WA, Robbyn Stone [Gary Zika] of Houston, TX, Terry Stone [Denise] of Hamburg, Germany, Jerold Stone [Rosemarie] of Collingswood, NJ, and Daryl Stone [Shawn Roarke] of Matawan, NJ; 12 great nieces and nephews; and her close cousins Carolyn Hallett (of London, ON), Christine Hallett (of Halifax, NS), Sandra Hallett (of St. John's) and Natalie Hallett (of St. John's). A "Last Post" ceremony will be held at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion, 90 Forest Road, in St. John's at 11 am on Friday, 15 August. She has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at St. Martin's Cathedral in Gander on Saturday, 16 August at 11:30 am, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery in Gander. SHEPPARD, Ray
1966-2014
Ray Sheppard
, died tragically on Tuesday, August 27, 2014. Ray was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, on December 21, 1966. He attended Sir James Dunn High School in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. At the age of 17, Ray joined the military. He served honourably with 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and with the 2nd Commando Airborne Regiment during that time. Ray met his future wife, Sherry, in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1987. They were married in 1990. Ray and Sherry moved to Alberta that same year. In 1993 Ray was posted to Winnipeg. He retired from the military in 1999. After his military service, Ray worked a variety of jobs, trying to find his true passion. In 2004 Ray began working as a spray foam applicator. He started his own insulation company in 2007 with the birth of Airborne Insulation. Ray travelled extensively with his work, taking on projects in North Western Ontario, Resolute Bay, Fort McMurray and much of Manitoba. Ray had an unparralled work ethic. He would go non-stop until the job was done-often times not eating or sleeping. While living in Wainwright, Alberta, Ray volunteered with Big Brothers and Scouts Canada. Ray followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps when he joined the Masonic Order in 1992. He later served as Master of Cornerstone Lodge. He was also a member of Khartum Shrine. Ray was a force of nature. He moved through life at top speed. He filled a room with his presence. Ray was generous beyond measure. He took great pride in his work with Airborne Insulation. Ray dealt with his customers respectfully and went above and beyond to ensure that they were satisfied. Ray leaves to mourn his wife of 24 years, Sherry and their 5 beloved dogs, Chloe, Aysha, Raven, Callen and Ziva, his father, Jack Sheppard, his brother, Russell Sheppard and his sister, Kelly Sheppard, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Ray was predeceased by his mother, Stella Sheppard (Bennett) in 2008 and his much adored dog of 16 years, Tipper in 2013. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery), Winnipeg at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ray's memory to Angels Haven Pet Rescue at angelshaven.ca/donations.html

WHEY, George
Passed peacefully into the Lord's presence on August 6, 2014 at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander due to complications from a pancreatitis attack on May 26, 2014, George Whey of Gander, NL aged 58. Predeceased by his brother, baby Vincent. Leaving to fondly remember him: his loving wife of 35 years, Julia, who was constantly by his side for the duration of his sickness, daughter Tammy (Jamie) Pickett of Andrew, Alberta, son Andrew of Gander, parents Fred and Abigail Whey of Trinity, B Bay, mother-in law Dorothy Brenton of Gander, brothers Bernard (Sharon) of St. John's, Fred (Sandy) of Calgary, Alberta, Vincent (Cindy) of Gander, Terry (Stephanie) of Goose Bay, sisters Madeline (Ben) Welshman of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Phyllis of Calgary, Alberta, Marjorie (Arnold) Hookey of St. John's, grandchildren Tyler, Elizabeth, Jayda and Ethan Pickett of Andrew, Alberta as well as many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends . George accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour on November 27, 1985 and lived each day showing the reality of his new life in Christ. He was steadfast in his faith, serving his Lord continually and meeting with fellow Christians at the Gander Gospel Hall. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his family and friends. WITCHER, Edna Florence
August 12, 1923 - August 10, 2014

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Edna Florence Witcher, surrounded by her family, at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander NL on August 10, 2014. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Jessie Waterman, husband Silas, sons Eugene and infant Dennis, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. She leaves to mourn her children Shirley (Scott), Yvonne (Leo), David (Alice), Lily (Wilfred), Roland, Ross, Cavell (Wayne), Barry (Mirta), 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, brothers Cyril and Don Waterman, and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
She was much loved and will sadly be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and so many others whose lives she touched.
