Passed peacefully away on August 2, 2002, Mr. Des Griffin in his 77th year. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Magdaline (nee Finn); brothers Tom and Claude; and sister Gertrude. Left with fond and loving memories are spouse, Joan (nee Cleary) RN., sons, Sean (Debbie) of Stony Creek, Ont., and Mick (Cathy) of Toronto, Ont.; brothers, Arthur (Margret) of Grand Falls and William (Gerry) of Grand Falls; sister Barbara (Paul) Gonsalves of Bluffton, S.C.; grandchildren, Merryn, Bryn, Devin, Brennan, Shandis and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass took place August 5th from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Kidney Dialysis Machine Fund, Gander. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.

MULLALY, Rita J. -
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on August 2, 2002, Rita J. Mullaly in her 77th year. Predeceased by parents William and Josephine O'Leary; brother Tom; and infant children, Thomas and Catherine. Left with fond and loving memories are husband, John Mullaly; sons, William (Amy) of Calgary, AB., John (Kathy) of Gander and Michael (Janice) of Corner Brook; daughters, Mary (Wayne) Pierce of Sydney River, NS., Angela (Jim) Hayter of Gander, Margaret (Pat) Howell of Carbonear and Marlene (Serge) Theriault of Russell, ON., 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass took place August 5th from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Cremation followed. Interment to be announced at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to NF Cancer Treatment Research Foundation. May her soul rest in peace. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.

MORRISSEY, Eliza Margaret (nee Wall) -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on August 4, 2002, Eliza Margaret Morrissey (nee Wall), age 76 years. Daughter of the late Jack and Francis Wall. Left to mourn are her loving husband, John; seven children, John (Marjorie), Corner Brook, Betty George (Jim), Gambo, Dave (Phyllis), Appleton, Gertie Hynes (John), Miramichi, NB., Brenda Rich, St. John's, Gerard (Eileen), Goose Bay and Nick (Kathy), Paradise; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dwyer, Gander, Gertie Power, Stephenville, and Agnes Ford (Cyril) of Alberta, brother Leo (Florence), Quebec; sister-in-law, Rita Fury, St. John's, Anne Schmidt, Cambridge, ON., and Carmel Morrisey, Gambo; Great Aunt Florrie Dick; special friends, Agnes Pynn and Nellie Kelly; and a number of other relatives and friends. TARRANT, Lindsay -
Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on August 4, 2002, Lindsay Tarrant of Musgrave Harbour, age 60. Predeceased by parents Robert and Rosanna Tarrant; and brother Gerald. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Mary Ann; sons, Abram (Lisa) of Musgrave Harbour, Peter of Musgrave Harbour and Craig (Heather) of Gander; daughter Eva Howlett (Rod) of St. John's; brothers, Joseph (Gloria) of Davidsville, Stan of Ontario and Rod (Pauline) of Clarenville; sisters, Elizabeth Gill, Pearl Gill (Arthur) and Hannah Payne (Raymond), all of Fogo Island; sister-in-law Lorraine Tarrant of Fogo Island; four grandchildren, Samantha, Cody, Tyler and Jackson; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral took place on August 7th, from the Pentecostal church, Musgrave Harbour, with Pastor Rowsell officiating. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Musgrave Harbour. SLANEY, John -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on August 5, 2002, John Cornelius Slaney in his 79th year. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Dorothea; sons, Bill (Loretta), Dunville, Ron (Dorothy), Brampton, ON., Kevin (Greta), Gambo, Jimmy (Barbara), Gambo and Harold (Claudette), Labrador City; daughters, Lorraine (Tony), Labrador City and Geraldine (Eugene), Mount Pearl; brothers, Bill (Francis), Gambo and Con (Barney), Gander; grandsons, Cory, Paul, Todd, Johnny and Ronnie; granddaughters, Nadine, Tina, Colleen, Sherrylynn, Patricia, Lisa, Rebecca, Amy and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, William, Jonathon and Taylor; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on August 7, 2002, Jessie Flora Vincent in her 80th year. Passed away in Gander on August 11, 2002, Mr. Bruno von Borziskowski in his 73rd year. Predeceased by his father Albert. Left with fond and loving memories is his wife, Elizabeth; mother, Eline von Borziskowski of N.W. Germany; son Curtis of Gander; daughters Renate of St. John's, Erika of Toronto; brother Curtis of Germany; sisters Anni of Germany, Helga of Germany; Erika and husband Helmut Bottcher of Germany; Renate and husband Gunter Meyer of Germany; grandchildren, Lesleigh and Dylan; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. MERNER, Florence Ellen -
Passed peacefully away at her home in Glenwood on August 13, 2002, Florence Ellen Merner in her 66th year. Predeceased by her parents, Catherine and Lawrence John; brother Robert; sister Margaret; and daughter Joanne. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, John; daughters, Jeannie (Tom) Patty and Tracy (Keith); grandchildren Katherine Ann, Simone, Mitchell, Joshua and Alesha; sisters, Janet, Sheila, Marine, Regina and Theresa; brothers, William, Leo and Terry; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on August 14, 2002 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Lloyd Hicks of Musgrave Harbour, age 70 years. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Linda Hicks and sister Phyllis. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Marie; son Bill of Musgrave Harbour; daughters, Donna (Lindsay Melindy) of Lumsden, Kim (Eddie Abbott) of Alberta; brother Rex (Emily ) of Musgrave Harbour; sisters, Verna (Guy Davitnon) of Quebec, Motee Rideout of Gander, and Marie Abbot (Lewinsor) of Musgrave Harbour); four grandchildren, Stephanie, Brittany, Claudia and Blake; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on August 16th at the Salvation Army Citadel, Musgrave Harbour with Major D. Baggs officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Musgrave Harbour. DELANEY, Pellina Margaret -
Passed away suddenly on August 21, 2002 at her home in Gander, Pellina Margaret Delaney. Predeceased by son Eric (1979). Left with fond and loving memories are her loving husband Patrick of 54 years; sons, Edward (wife Patricia), Dennis (wife Sheila) and Stephen, daughters, Helen (husband Gary) and Diana (husband Gary); grandchildren, Dodie, Eric, Rebekah, Leah, Zachery and Jake; great-grandchildren, Leah and Meghan; sisters, Aileen, Sylvia and Thelma; and brother Samuel. Deepest thanks and appreciation to relatives, friends, and neighbours who helped alleviate the sorrow and passing of our dear Pellina, and to those who gave sympathy cards, flowers, phone calls, meals, visits to our home and prayers. BALSOM, Arthur George -
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on August 22, 2002, Mr. Arthur George Balsom, age 75 years. Left to mourn are his daughters, Barbara Kerr, Ontario, Annie Hillier, Ontario and Mary Linda Francis of Appleton; son Robert of Gander; sisters, Jean, Daphne and Thelma; brother Ray; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held at Glenwood United Church on August 26, 2002 with Rev. Case officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery. WHEATON, Erwin-
Passed peacefully away on August 23, 2002 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Erwin Wheaton of Frederickton, age 66 years. Predeceased by his parents Solomon and Nora Wheaton, stepmother Bertha Wheaton, and son Christopher. Left with warm and loving memories are wife Betty; son Kev (Tina) of Frederickton; daughters, Louise (Rick Stamp) of Gander, Rosalind (Barry Downer) of Halifax, Susan (Peter Edison) of Rodgers Cove; brother Ross (Joy) of Frederickton; sister Verna (Gregory Brown) of Frederickton; six grandchildren David, Lucas, Adam, Shelby, Erica and Jordan; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. CARTER, Mary -
Passed away suddenly at Brookfield Hospital on August 25, 2002, Mary Carter of Greenspond, age 75 years. Predeceased by her husband, Charles; brothers, John and William; sisters, Bessie and Josephine. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her son Baxter (Glenys); daughters, Gladys Hoskins (Pierce), Lorraine Burry (David), Gloria Bragg (Michael) and Diane Bragg (Michael) and Diane Bragg (Clyde), all of Greenspond; brother Baxter Parsons (Julia) of Valleyfield; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on in the presence of his family at Brookfield Hospital, on August 25, 2002, Mr. Jesse Hounsell of Pound Cove, age 90 years. Predeceased by loving wife, Melinda; son Robert; daughter Eileen; brothers, William (Mary) and Lewis; sons-in-law John Harvey and Wayne Parsons. Left with loving memories are his son Roland (Beverley) of Pound Cove, with whom he resided; six daughters, Maggie Howell (Fred) of Pound Cove, Julia Gill (Chesley) of Mount Pearl, Shirley Harvey Goulding (Gordon) of Gambo, Elsie Parsons of Victoria, Conception Bay, Maisie Pike (Chesley) of Paradise, Christina Best (Bill) of Brookfield, daughter-in-law Beatrice Hounsell of Mount Pearl; sister Ethel Templeman (Sandy) of Mount Pearl; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on August 26, 2002 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Patricia Elizabeth Gillingham (nee Dawson), age 67 years, daughter of the late James and May Dawson. Passed peacefully away on August 28, 2002 at his residence, Stanley Sturge of Brookfield, age 76 years. Predeceased by his parents, Bertha (Churchill) and Abram Sturge; daughter Janet; brother-in-law Harley Ballett. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Greta; son Wayne (Cavelle) of Cape Freels, daughters, Bertha Oram (Garland) of Dover, Linda Hounsell (Clyde) of Pound Cove, Jeanette Welcher (Elvis) of Brookfield; brother Edward (Carrie) of Lewisporte; sister Leona Ballett of Scarborough, ON; sister-in-law Elirta Adams (Wilbur) of Clarenville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on August 28, 2002 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mr. Fred Waterman in his 90th year. Predeceased by wives Ina - 1946, Nellie - 1993 and Rita - 1996. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Clyde (Jean) of Glovertown, Carl (Daphne) of Gander; daughter Ina (David) Coffin of Kingston, Ont.; stepson, Alonzo Cave (Christine); brothers, Cyril (Isabelle) of Gambo, Donald (Lydia) of Gander; Arthur of Gander; sisters, Alma Freake of Twillingate, Edna (Sylis) Witcher of Baytona, Mildred (Max) Stanford; grandchildren, Trevor, Tracy, Sheldon, Stephen and Darren; and great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Devon and Justyn; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. MILLER, John (Jack) -
Passed away on August 29, 2002 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mr. Jack Miller in his 71st year. Mr. Miller is predeceased by wife Louise (1990); parents Walter and Margaret Miller; and brother-in-law Chris Paulin. Left with loving memories are son John and wife Neysa of Grand Falls-Windson; daughter Judy and husband Jim Payne of Roscoe, IL., USA; brother Barry and wife Loris of Fredericton, NB; sister Lynn and Bernie Ough of Saint John, NB; sisters-in-law, Diane and husband Brian Ewart of St. Catherines, ON, Linda Villeneuve of Pleasant Prairie, WI; brother-in-law Frank and wife Carol Paulin of Dawson Creek, BC; as well as several other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on September 1st at St. Martin's Anglican Church, Gander. Interment at Loon Bay United Cemetery, Loon Bay. Donations may be made to the Jack Miller Memorial Fund.
