Description: I am searching for my ggg grandfather, Henry Whiffen, b. 1751, d. 1/24/1790 who married on 10/23/1776 Mary Gollop b. Abt. 1755 d.? They had 6 children one of them, my gg grandfather, Herbert Whiffen, b. 4/27/1788. Henry died when Herbert was only 2 yrs. old leaving Mary to remarry (none listed in Sturminster Marshall where they were born and lived), returning to her family, or claiming poor relief. Very reliable sources in Newfoundland, where Herbert ended up-Southern Harbour, state he came from Cardiff Wales and spoke Welsh leading me to believe Mary may have moved there with the children. It was also said he went to NF with his cousin, William Whiffen, b. 1796 of Winterbourne Zeloton (Bonavista).

Description: My Garland ancestors left England, husband, wife and possibly 6-7 children, approximately 1832-1834. From what we know he was appointed as high sherriff or magistrate in Newfoundland, but we do not know what area. According to family information they left one son in England with family because of age or health (he was born in 1832 and he was my great grandfather). My ggrandfather's name was William Henry Garland and so far I have been unable to come up with his parent's names. He did not list them in the family bible (no one back beyond him) or on his death certificate (as completed by his son). Any ideas?

To avoid detection, he changed his name to his mother's maiden name ,so he became John Carey.This was my husband's great-grandfather.He settled in Fortune Harbour, Notre Dame Bay,Nl.He married Bridget Quirk and they had seven children.We're trying to find it documented somewhere in Newfoundland, his county of birth in Ireland.He died in Fortune Harbour ( as John Carey) in 1920, at the age of 85.

Description:I am searching for information on my grandfather and his family. His name was James Gear born March, 1897 in Whitbourne. He had a large family I know two of the brothers were named Rueben and Moses and a sister Mary who settled in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia married to a man with last name Butts. My grandfather married Gertrude I. Boutilier, my grandmother, from Halifax, they settled in Florence, Cape Breton and he worked as a coalminer. In 1939 he enlisted in the war and served overseas until the end in 1945. His oldest son ,John, served with him in the Cape Breton Highlanders. He returned to Florence and died several years later. Any information would be a great help as I am just beginning my research.

Description:I am pleased to contact you to say that I am the Terrance Warren son of Blanche Gemina Warren nee (Genge) born in Glovertown Nfld. May 22, 1911 oldest daughter of 12 or thirteen children. A very large family. There may have been more but I believe one or two died at birth. Blanche moved to Montreal approx 1925 to live with her aunt ( Family named Snow) and worked to send money home. Blanche met Reginald Warren and Married in Verdun Que. approx 1934. Mom died November 10th 1995, In Brampton. I have said for years that I would like to do a geneology search and asked for details to no avail. Mom once told me the family was of British and Dutch Heritage. I and one of my brothers once did visit Newfoundland and I did meet some of my Aunts, Uncles and cousins. My mother had a younger brother William( Bill) Genge who I believe is still living in or near Glovertown. Many other members of the family still live in Glovertown. Moms youngest sister lived in the Kitchener area, and I did drive her down to visit. Names that ring a bell are that one of moms sisters married George Baker and lived in Glovertown. Mom had a brother whoes name was Hedley and sisters mamed Gladys Alma and Winnie. Winnie lived in Kitchener. I remember from my youth that we had cousins named Perry, and my mothers aunt in Montreal was named Snow who had two sons. One of them was named Clayton, and he was in the RCMP and I somehow remember as a child that he was posted back to NFLD. The other I think was Albert and I believe the Husbands name was George. My eldest brothers middle name is Garland and I believe we are related to a Garland family. I have recently found that there was a Blanch Genge an Aunt or Great aunt prior to my mother, something we in our family did not know. I am interested in anything about the origins of the Genge family, and in any contacts that you can pass to me. Await and appreciate any and all info.

Researching:Wondering if anyone out there is researching the Godwin(Godden) family of the Barr’d Islands area of Fogo Island. Amelia (among other children) was born 1883 and married Edwin Coffin in 1901. Amelia was the daughter of Abraham Richard Godden and Rachel Brown. Rhoda Godden was born about 1887 (no baptism records found) and married William James Cull in 1906. In her marriage records she was recorded as the daughter of Abram. Description: I am trying to research the Grant Family from New Perlican and there is difficulty in that the records for Heart's Content no longer exist. It is thought they originally settled in Trinity. In the diary of Rev Henry Lind, he tells the story of a Mr. Grant and a Mr. Scott both elderly gentlemen from New Perlican who died on the Hearts Content barrens Mar 1854 while returning from Harbour Grace having visited the relieving officer John Robert Pincent.Another source suggests his age about 60. Unfortunately he does not give a first name. I checked the Govt Journals for that year but there is only a summary report for relief and not a detail one as given on NGB for another year. I do have a record of a Sarah Coates Grant from New Perlican marrying a George Cook at Trinity in 1860. I would appreciate any information that I can get. My GGGrandfather was John Grant (wife name unknown), GGrandfather Charles James Grant (wife Dorothy Matthews) and my Grandmother was Sarah Grant.

Seeking genealogy information on Point Verde Greenes and related families. MY GGG-GF,John Greene,and his brothers Robert and (unknown) were in Boston in the 1770s. Their father,Michael Greene(or Green) bought Point Verde Peninsula (2 miles from Placentia) in 1803 on the old French deed belonging to Governor Costebelle.John and Robert had traded back and forth between Boston and Placentia for years,via NS and NB,and about late 1778 moved permanently to Placentia,either as immigrants or possibly simply returning home,as there was prior evidence of Greenes in the area.(e.g. another Robert Greene at Placentia in 1744).Robert apparently fought briefly on USA side in Revolution.John and Michael said to be Quakers. In early 1790s,John married Mary,widow of John Corbin of Argentia(who had brother Daniel Corbin). Mary already had son John Corbin Jr.(1778). All his Corbin descendants and all Point Verde Greenes share same female ancestor. Both Corbins and Greenes,I need lots of family tree information. Currently(Feb. 2007) I have accumulated over 110 pages on Point Verde Greenes and happy to exchange information. Some related names include(late 1700s/early 1800s) Corbin,Blanch,Bradshaw,Riley(O'Reilly) Clancy,Larkin,Power,Hill,Burke, and later Lannon,McGrath,O'Keefe,Smith(some of Indian descent,Argentia), Foley(likewise), Barron,Carroll,Collins,Walsh,Whelan,Rowe,many others. Description: GREEN (now Greene) Placentia & Point Verde. The ancestors of all the current RC Point Verde Greene clan were Quakers and are buried in the ANGLICAN churchyard in Placentia,at least until 1829. They included my GGG-GF,John Green,his brother Robert Green,and their parents,Michael Green & (name unknown). The location is this: if you were walking towards the front door of the current church,instead move to your right and walk along the outside almost to the corner of the graveyard. Somewhere in those remains of stones,markers etc.,barely visible,are the Greens stones,presumably fallen and overgrown.(They were planters who could afford headstones instead of wooden crosses.) At least one stone was still standing and readable in the 1930s era. Does anyone have any information that could help on names and dates,or does anyone have photos of that corner taken before,say,1950? Thanks.Ward.

Description :Looking for information on my g.g. grandparents Augustus Piercey (born 1863) and Edith Gregory (born 1867) Heart's Content. Augustus, married Edith Dec.2 1891. Augustus' father was Levi. Edith's father was William Gregory. Augustus died March 10 1896 age 33 years. They had two daughters Mary Maude (born 1893), my great grandmother. She married James Henry George from New Harbour in 1913. She died around 1916 in Duncan B.C. and had one son who was adopted by his fathers sister in New Harbour. Another daughter Marie Augusta was born March 14 1896 four days after her father had died In the Mcalpine directory 1898 Heart's Content, it states Mrs Augustus Piercey as a Widow. She may have a sister, who was married twice, 1st to a Hynes, and 2nd to a Higdon, with no children. Can anyone tell me what happened to marie? Did Edith (Gregory) Piercey remarry? or anything else about them.
