GLENWOOD, a post and money order office in Twillingate district. Glenwood is the center of a lumbering district, situated on Reid Nfld. Railway, name of station, Glenwood, 14 miles from Notre Dame Junction. Contains 3 stores, postal telegraph, express and 1 large saw mill; it is a preventive station, also noted for good hunting and fishing grounds. Pop. 160.

GLOVERTOWN, a post and money order office in Bonavista district, situated on the Terra Nova River, 4 miles from Alexander Bay station, 50 miles from Clarenville and 20 miles from Port Blandford. Lumbering is the principal industry, there are several saw mills, 2 stores and Methodist church. Pop. 150.

GOVERNOR’S ISLAND, in St. Barbe district. Nearest post town, Bay of Islands.

GRADY, a fishing settlement on the Labrador coast. Mail steamers seven times, more or less, during the summer, according to state of ice. Pop. 10.

GRAND BANK, (Fortune), a post and money order office, telegraph, preventive station, fishing, farming and shipping torn in Burin district. A port of call for reid Nfld. Steamer from St. John’s to Port-aux-Basques, and from Placentia. Nearest railway station, Placentia, 125 miles; banks, St. John’s, 245 miles. A steamer makes fortnightly trips from St. Pierre, Miq., returning day after arrival. Contains 11 stores, several boarding houses, Newfoundland express, 1 saw mill, reading room, 1 cod liver oil refinery, court house and jail. Masonic Hall and Salvation Army barracks. A large business is done here in the foreign export of fish, and Bank fishing. Place has grown much in recent years.

GRAND BEACH (Fortune Bay), a small fishing settlement in Burin district. Nearest post and all other connections at or the same as Grand Bank (Fortune), 10 miles. Pop. 80.

GRAND BROOK, in Burgeo and LaPoile district. Nearest post town, Channel.

GRAND BRUIT, a post and money order office in Burgeo and LaPoile district, 27 miles from Port-aux-Basques. Reid Nfld. Co.’s mail steamers call here. Contains 1 store, Methodist church, express office, 2 lobster canneries. Pop. 175.

GRAND COVE (Confusion Bay), in St. Barbe district. Nearest post town, Tilt Cove.

GRAND FALLS, a post and money order town in Twillingate district, a town of some importance being the headquarters of the Anglo-Nwfld. Development Co.’s pulp and paper mills. Both in extent and perfect equipment these mills are amongst the finest factories of their kind in the world; when working at full pressure the mills turn out 120 tons of paper, 200 tons of mechanical pulp, and 25 tons sulphite pulp daily. The town is situated on the Reid Nfld. Railway, 276 miles west of St. John’s. Contains 5 stores, 2 hotels, 5 churches, Church of England, Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian and Salvation Army, express, customs and telegraph offices. Pop. About 2,000.

GRAND ILETTES HARBOR, in St. Barbe district. Nearest post town, Conche.

GRAND JOHN, a fishing settlement in Fortune Bay district. Nearest post office and money order, Bay L’Argent; telegraph, Long Harbor; port of entry and coastal steamer, St. Jacques; all others same as Bay L’Argent. Pop. 60.

GRAND LaPIERRE, in Fortune Bay district near Belloram, Bay L’Argent.

GRAND LAKE, a post and money order office in Twillingate district, a station on Bishops Falls branch of reid Nfld. Railway. Contains 1 store, 1 hotel, express and postal telegraph office, good fishing, shooting and hunting in vicinity. Grand Lake, a beautiful sheet of water, is nearby.

GRAND LAKE, a beautiful lake, about 60 miles long by 5 miles wide. The land surrounding it is covered with timber. It abounds with fine fish, and discharges its waters into the Atlantic through Humber Sound.

GRAND VACHE, situated on north side of White Bay, in St. Barbe district, a fishing settlement. Nearest post town, Western Cove. Pop. 40.

GRANDY’S BROOK, a settlement in Burgeo and LaPoile district. All connections, Burgeo, 7 miles, by row-boat in two or three hours; is a fine stream for sea trout and salmon. Inhabitants mostly half-breeds and Indians. Sportsman’s paradise, great numbers visit every year, grand salmon fishing. Pop. 30.

GREAT BRAHA, a post settlement in St. Barbe district. Pop. 49.

GREAT BURIN, a post, money order, telegraph, Newfoundland express, port of entry, fishing and farming village and capital of Burin district. Nearest railway station, Placentia, 45 miles; coastal mail steamer from st. john’s, 190 miles. Contains several general stores and traders, court house and gaol, hotel, several halls, 4 churches - Church of England, Methodist, catholic, Salvation Army, 1 convent and schools, magnificent harbor, with two narrow entrances always accessible, there being an island in the middle of the Gut. A lighthouse on Dodding Head. Burin does a considerable trade with halifax. Pop. 2,000, including the small places immediately in and around Burin.

GREAT CAT ARM and LITTLE CAT ARM, in district of St. Barbe, White Bay; nearest post office, Jackson’s Arm; money order office, Western Bay. Pop. 30.

GREAT CODROY, a river in district of St. George flowing southwest into the Gulf of St. Lawrence through the most picturesque scenery. Length about 60 miles. Its banks are covered with excellent timber.

GREAT CODROY, a post settlement in St. George district, situated on the Great Codroy River. Farming and lumbering are the principal industries.

GREAT CODROY ARM, a fishing settlement in St. Barbe district. Nearest post office, Jackson’s Arm; money order office, Western Cove, where mail steamer calls. Pop. 40.

GREAT COLINET ISLAND, in Placentia and St. Mary’s district, near St. Joseph’s.

GREAT GERVOIS, a post settlement in Fortune Bay district, 8 miles from Gaultois, 21 miles from Harbor Breton. Nfld. Produce Co.’s steamers call regularly. Pop. 90.

GREAT HARBOR (Connaigre Bay), a fishing station in Fortune Bay district. All connections at or the same as Harbor Breton, 3 miles, connected by ferry. Contains 1 store, 1 lobster factory. Pop. 100.

GREAT COVE, a post, fishing and farming settlement in Bay de Verde district, 30 miles north of Carbonear, the terminus of the Brigus branch railway. Contains postal telegraph and 3 churches; Old Perlican is 6 miles south of this place [and] is becoming a very prosperous locality. The principal industries are cod, salmon and herring fishing. Pop. 500.

GREENHEAD, in Harbor Grace district, is not a settlement of itself; it is the centre of Spaniard’s Bay, and only a high head standing out in the centre of the harbor.

All other connections at or the same as Ne Harbor. Contains 2 churches, Methodist and Church of England, 2 schools, 2 stores, 4 saw mills; has good harbor.

GREENSPOND, a post and money order office in Bonavista Bay, Bonavista district. Contains several general stores, customs, express and postal telegraph offices, 3 churches - Church of England, Methodist and Salvation Army. Bowring Bros., Nfld. Produce Co. and Reid Nfld. Co.’s steamers call here. It is 148 miles from St. John’s by boat, 35 miles from Gambo. Pop. 1,300.

HALL’S BAY (in Notre Dame Bay), a large bay on the north of Newfoundland in Twillingate district, containing several small settlements, the principal of which is Boat Harbor. This place and others further into the bottom of the bay are all served from Little Bay post office via Wolf’s Cove. Those at the mouth of the bay, at Little Bay Islands; bay steamer plies here and connects with the railway at Norris Arm, about 80 miles, and with other places at Notre Dame Bay.

HANTS HARBOR, a post, money order office, telegraph, preventive station, fishing and lumbering settlement in district of Trinity; 10 miles from Old Perlican, nearest railway station, Carbonear, 24 miles; all other connections at or the same as Heart’s Content, 12 miles; contains 2 stores; 2 halls; 1 Methodist church; 4 schools; saw mill; Salvation Army barracks; good harbor, safe entrance, with lighthouse, with fixed white light. Contains 1 large fish establishment, 6 stores, Nfld. Express, court house, gaol, customs house and government store; 2 churches, Catholic and Methodist; good harbor, safe entrance. KELLIGREWS (Conception Bay), a post, money order, Anglo-American telegraph, express office, railway station, farming and fishing settlement in Harbor Main district, 20 miles from St. John’s, which is the nearest banking town; daily mails. Contains several stores and boarding houses, and 3 churches; steamer connection 6 times a week with Bell Island; becoming quite a summer resort. Pop. 320.

KEPPEL HARBOR (Port au Choix), in St. Barbe district. Nearest post town, Bonne Bay.

KERLEY’S or CARELESS HARBOR, a small fishing settlement in Trinity district nearest railway station, Trinity; all other connections at or the same as Bonaventure, 1 mile. Pop. 60.

KETTLE COVE, (Twillingate South Island) a small fishing settlement n Twillingate district; all connections at or the same as Twillingate. Pop. 30.

KETTLE COVE, in Bay de Verde district. All connections, Carbonear.

KIAR’S COVE, a cove in Black Island, in Twillingate district; all connections at or the same as Exploits, Burnt Island. Pop. 30.

KILBRIDE, a post, fishing and farming settlement in St. John’s (West) district; all connections at St. John’s. Contains Catholic church.

KILLOCK ISLAND, in Twillingate district, an island in Exploits River, near Botwood, not inhabited.

KING’S BAY, on Labrador Coast. Nearest port of call, Sloop Cove.

KING’S COVE, a fishing settlement in St. Barbe district; nearest post office and other connections at Port Saunders, 2 miles. No harbor. Pop. 39.

KING’S COVE, in Trinity district. See Milton.

KING’S COVE, a post, money order village in Bonavista district, a fishing and lumbering settlement, 18 miles from Bonavista station, is a port of entry. Contains express and postal telegraph, 5 stores, 1 hotel, 2 churches, Church of England and Catholic; has a good harbor and is a port of call for Reid Nfld. and Bowring Bros. steamers. Pop. 600.

KING’S COVE, in Twillingate district; nearest post town, Jackson’s Cove, in summer.

KING’S HARBOR, in Burgeo and LaPoile district; nearest post town, Burgeo.

KING’S POINT, a post, money order office and fishing settlement in Twillingate district. Has postal telegraph and customs office.

KIPICOCK, on Labrador Coast. Nearest port of call, Ilack.

KIPPENS, a post settlement in St. George district on north side of St. George’s Bay, on road leading from Stephenville Crossing to Port au Port. Good trout and lobster fishing. Pop. 40.

KIPPEN’S POINT, in Placentia and St. Mary’s district. Nearest post town, Paradise, Placentia Bay.

KIRBY’S COVE, a small fishing settlement in Burin district; all connections at or the same as Burin. Pop. 82.

KITE COVE, in Twillingate district. Near Botwood.

KITTY’S BROOK, a station on Bishop’s Falls branch, Reid Nfld. railway, 36 miles from Millerton Junction.

KNIFE COVE, in Burgeo and LaPoile district. All connections at Burgeo.

KNIGHT’S COVE, a way office, fishing settlement in Bonavista district; post and money order office and all other connections at or the same as King’s Cove, 2 miles. Pop. 145.
