| WESTERN BAY A large fishing settlement on the north shore of Conception Bay in the district of Bay de Verds. This can hardly be called a harbor, it is so exposed, yet it may be counted the best on the north side of Conception bay from Conbonear to Bay de Berds, and numbers of boats are employed in the codfishery from this settlement. The land around has been cultivated to a considerable extent, most of the popuilation engage in farming as an adjunct to the fisheries, Distant from Carbonear by road 17 miles, Mail weekly. Population 895. |
