Lovell's 1871
Provincial Business Directory
NEW PERLICAN
An important settlement on south side of Trinity Bay, district of Trinity. It is a post town. The inhabitants are engaged in farming and shipbuilding to some extent; the cod fishery is also carried on. In this settlement there is a curious table rock upon which hundreds of names have been cut, some of them dating back as far as two centuries. It is the packet station for the boat which runs across the bay to Trinity. Distant from Heart's Content by road 3 miles, from St John's by road 83 miles. Mail weekly. Population 420.
