CAPE RACE
The most important cape in Newfoundland with a lighthouse on the peninsula of Avalon, district of Placentia and St. Mary's. The coast about here is very bold and is remarkable for the number of wrecks that have occurred upon it. The light burns at an elevation of 130 feet and is revolving. It is supported by the Imperial government by a special toll on vessels benefiting by it, of a farthing per ton. Distant from Renewse 15 miles by boat. Mail fortnightly. Population 15.
