Definitions bbl barrel                  
  bolts a length of woven goods, especially as it comes on a roll from the loom.                  
  cwt one hundred pounds by weight                  
  fath fathom - a linear measure of six feet                  
  gal gallon                  
  hh hogshead                  
  pease dried, yellow split peas                  
  qtl quintal - a weight equivalent to between 100 - 130 lbs                  
  qtl quart                  
  rann                    
  tierce an old measure of capacity equivalent to 42 wine gallons                  
                       
  Note Reference is made to the purchase of bread and baggs. This is assumed to be hard bread, or                  
    what we have come to call hard tack. The baggs obviously refers to the container in which the                  
    bread was shipped, and had some monetary value, as can be seen by the fact that on the                  
    23 Sep 1784, two baggs were returned for credit.                  
                       
    1 pound = 20 shillings                  
    1 shilling = 12 pence
