Tryphena and Tom Wells

Botwood
WW2

This is a photo of my grandparents, Tom & Tryphena Wells with a friend,
taken at Botwood, NFLD. during the second world war. Tom, a very proud
50 year old veteran of World War One, stubbornly insisted on re-enlisting
to go fight again. Amazingly, they let Tom re-enlist, but put him in charge of
the military service personnel store at Botwood, NFLD. He took this position
very seriously. He understood what it was like to be a young soldier away
from home so he and Tryphena would often have a few of the young
servicemen over for a home cooked meal. "Anything to help out the boys"
he told me, when reminiscing years later. In the photo, Tom's wife
Tryphena Wells ( nee Chaulk ) is on the left, Tom is in the middle
and an unidentified friend is on the right.
