St. John's
1940's

This is a photo of my father Arthur Ronald Norman on the left
& his younger brother Herbert John Norman taken in the 1940s.
Art was born in 1916 & Herb in 1917 in St. Johns, NFLD. to
parents Ben & Annie Norman ( nee Simmonds ) of St. Johns.
In 1932, Art apprenticed at Fosters Butcher Shop & Herb
worked at Browns Garage. Both establishments were
located on Bond Street in St. Johns. In 1937, Art went to
Buchans, NFLD. where he worked as a meatcutter for
the Royal Stores chain. This is where Art met & married
my mother Dorothy Wells of Thomas & Tryphena.
In the 1940's Art built, owned & operated Norman's
Grocery Store in Pasadena, NFLD. and his brother
Herb started the Humber Valley Trucking Co.
in Corner Brook, NFLD.
