John Halley Maude (Lowey) Halley

Horse Cove

This is a photo of John and Bridget Maude Halley, nee Lowry, of 204 Park
Avenue, Revere, MA. She was my aunt and the daughter of James and
Ellen Lowry, nee Emberly. Aunt Maude was born in 1892 at then
Horse Cove, NL and was christened at Holy Rosary RC Church
at Portugal Cove, NL. She died in l957 at Boston,
MA from Leukemia.

She studied nursing in Boston, and worked with Aunt Winnie Lowry
(married John Murphy) of Boston, MA, as a nurse till l920 when
she married Captain John Halley, son of John Halley and
brother of Edward "Big Ned" Halley and Mary (Mrs John)
Geehan of Geehan's Hotel, all of Topsail, then
Harbour Main District, Newfoundland.

He went to Boston before WW I, studied for his ticket and was Captain of
the Beamtrawler, "The Breeze" on the Boston Fish Pier all of his working
life. He fished on the Georgia Banks off Halifax, Nova Scotia,
year around. He died about l946 from TB. Had l2 children
who all remained in the USA. This couple were US
citizens by naturalization.
