Leah Bennett - c1883

Fogo
c1903

Photo of my maternal grandmother who was born
May 30, 1883 in Fogo Newfoundland, and was
baptized in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Fogo.
She was the 2nd daughter of Aeneas Bennett and
Sarah Ann Peckford (married Nov. 9, 1880).

Leah left Fogo and sailed from St. John's, Nfld. on
SS Rosalind arriving in Halifax Nov. 11, 1904.
From there she made her way to Montreal, where
she was an upstairs maid, met my grandfather
(died before I was born), William Henry Francis
Dampier, who was the butler. They lived in
St. Antoine District of Montreal, and were married
in St. Anthony's RC Church October 3, 1911.

They moved to Ottawa and had a number of
children, one being my mother. Leah
died Dec. 4, 1962, Ottawa.
