Dorcas Roebothan

Joe Batts Arm
c1913

My grandmother Dorcas Roebothan at age 15 or 16.
The photo was taken somewhere about 1913. She
worked as a telegraph operator in the post office in
Joe Batt's Arm. This photo really depicts how
women dressed at this time. My aunt thinks that
this picture was taken somewhere during the time
of her job at the post office. She worked with
Floss Fitzgerald who was post master in the post
office for a long time before she took over the
post office herself. Both aunts have stated
that Dorcas was working as a telegraph
operator in 1912. They recall her
speaking about the Titanic.

Dorcas later married Lot Coffin.
