Past Scene of a Terrific Storm
September 12, 1775

A terrific storm occurred on September 12th 1775. The sea suddenly
rose twenty feet, causing much damage to premises and shipping in
Conception Bay. Over three hundred lives were lost at
Northern Bay where many fishing boats had gone to get
squid for bait. Many of the bodies were washed up
on the beach shown in this picture.
