NOTE: This census was compiled in Paris. The settlement of Beaubassin, In Acadia, was sacked and burned in 1698. The English population of Nefoundland, according to the work called The British Empire in America (edition of 1744, Vol 1., p. 14), was estimated in 1695 to be 1500 souls.
