TILT COVE

Methodist (?) Cemetery

Twillingate District

I believe this is a Methodist cemetery, as my gg-gm Matilda (Adams) Winsor Butler was buried there and she was Methodist. The cemetery is (usually) extremely overgrown and difficult to enter; however at times in the 1990s it was cleared by local men's groups, in particular for the 1992 Tilt Cove Reunion. Debris from the mine was dumped on the site, when the mine was reopened at Tilt Cove from 1957 to 1967; there were undoubtedly many headstones covered up, as a result. As you are entering Tilt Cove, you pass Beaver Cove Pond on your left; a little further on there is an access road on the left side, from which you can (thru the brambles and trees) struggle your way into the cemetery.

Collected 1990 and 1992, by Jill Marshall
