Headstone transcriptions from Thoroughfare United Church graveyard, Random Island, Newfoundland.
Thoroughfare is now uninhabited (since the early1960s). The graveyard is quite overgrown and many headstones are toppled.
Several tombstones are made of slate, possibly mined from the quarry on the north side of Smith Sound.
There are lots of graves in the graveyard without headstones or with plain wooden crosses containing no markings.

2) MILLS Nathaniel   Feb. 5, 1901, 56 years.  
 
3) MILLS Anne   May 14, 1923, 74 years & 6 months. NOTE: wife of Nathaniel
 
4) MILLS James   March 17, 1894, 16 years.  Drowned    Note: Nathaniel, Anne and James share the same tombstone - son of Nathaniel and Anne Mills
 
5) MILLS Bertie   Sept. 16, 1896, 3 years & 4 months. son of John and Sophie Mills
 
6) MILLS Sophie   July 23, 1944, 76 years. wife of John Mills,
 
7) LEONARD Thomas April 25, 1879; May 26, 1901. aged 22 years & 1 Month  
 
8) MILLS Caroline   June 2, 1899, 19 years. daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Mills
 
9) MILLS Philip   May 9, 1934, 46 years.  
 
10) MILLS Daphne   October 25, 1932, 15 years. NOTE: daughter of Philip and Hattie Mills, - Philip and Daphne share the same headstone
 
11) IVANY Harvey July 8 – July 14, 1933.   son of John and Hilda
 
12) LODER Caroline Feb. 21, 1861; Apr. 18, 1930.   born at Trinity  Died at Irelands Eye
 
13) LODER James 1860- 1934   NOTE: husband of Caroline and shares headstone with her
 
14) LODER (?)  Hazel Doris   Aug. 22-31, 1927    
 
15) LODER Freddie S. Dec. 3, 1919; Dec. 12, 1919.   Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Loder, NOTE: initial probably stands for Scott

17) BROWN Leah   died Jan. 4, 1952, 88 years NOTE: wife of James
 
18) BROWN Delilah   Dec. 26, 1920, 20 years. daughter of James and Leah - NOTE: Delilah, James and Leah share the same headstone.
 
19) LANGER William James   July 15, 1956, 70 years. husband of Dinah Anne Langor, - NOTE: This person, my grandfather, was the last person buried in Thoroughfare
 
20) MILLS Una   July 4th 1921 4 Months, Darling Child of Walter and Annie Mills
