A few years ago, I transcribed some of the headstones from the old Methodist Cemetery, Elliston (formerly Bird Island Cove - the name changed about 1903), Trinity Bay. Most of the graves are unmarked, many of the stones difficult to read: Selected entries: Elizabeth, wife of William Flinn Aug. 16, 1901, age 74 Arthur Clouter, died 1868, aged 11 years Maynard Clouter, died Aug. 4th 1887, aged 1 yr, 4 mos. Joseph Hicks, d. May 18, 1882, aged 66 years & his daughter Phebe, June 20 1875, aged 4 years Erected by Aubrey Hicks In Memory of His Mother, Charlotte, d. 9 June 1910, aged 77 To the memory of Richard Cole, who departed this life the 27th day of November 1856, aged 60 years Mary, relict of the late Richard Cole who departed this life 17 May 1866, aged 69 years. Richard Cole, In Memory of His Mother Mary who died May 7th 1864, aged 31 years, also his Father Thomas, died July 5th 186(8?), aged 39 years Richard Cole 1831-1889 His Wife Sarah Trask 1835-1908. In Memory of the beloved children of Solomon & Mary Ann Crew Mary d. May 11 1876, aged 21 years Robert James who was drowned June 11 1866 aged 6 yrs. Solomon d. Oct 21 1874, aged 11 yrs. Richard, son of George & Adelaid Crew d. Feb 1st 1908, aged 27 years. George, son of Robert & Elizabeth Crew 15 May 1907, age 20. Sarah, dau. of Robert & Elizabeth Crew 23 July 1907, aged 12 yrs. |
