CHAPEL ROCK ROMAN
CATHOLIC CEMETERY
FRONT ROAD,
BAY DE VERDE

This Roman Catholic Cemetery is located on the Front Road in Bay de Verde just north of the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption. The earliest decipherable marker is dated 1832 and the latest is 1884. Many others are deteriorated so much that only the weathered stone is visible. Some of the stones located, were fallen and covered with vegetation and had no lettering. Some headstones have deteriorated somewhat since then. The first Roman Catholic Church in Bay de Verde was built in the south-eastern corner of this cemetery about 1845 and was replaced by the present church, built in 1897 by Rev. Joseph V. Donnelly. The following transcriptions were done by a group of students in 1992, under the direction of Gerald Riggs and Brian Walsh, a copy of which can be viewed at the Blundon Heritage House at Bay de Verde.
