The returns are formed into volumes, which are numbered in a single sequence from 1 to 44.
The returns for a district may contain one or several volumes. The pagination within the returns
for a district generally forms a single sequence, continuing from the first through last volume for that district.
Thus, the Placentia - St. Mary's returns form volume 2 are paginated, pages 1-108 and those in volume 3,
pages 109 - 223. The seven volumes of returns for St. John's, however, each have a separate pagination commencing at 1
