Information in the columns Birth, Name, Age, Death was obtained from a file contributed to PANL, i.e. the
Provincial Archives of Newfoundland & Labrador (now known as The Rooms Provincial Archives).
Information in these coloums was transcribed by Amalie Lewis Tuffin from her research notes taken in August, 1998. It was posted on this site March 19, 1999. We are not sure if the researcher was aware, at that time, that there were two settlements in Newfoundland named Brigus. | Information in these columns was added by Kevin Reddigan from research to clarify which Brigus, Newfoundland was actually associated with each record. However, McAlpine's and Lovell's 1871 Directories do not show a Michael Walsh at Brigus, Conception Bay or vicinity, but both list a Michael Walsh at Brigus South. It is possible that the location may have been given to the newspapers as Brigus, C.B., an ambiguous abbreviation that was sometimes used to denote either Brigus, Cape Broyle or Brigus, Conception Bay. |
