It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edward Nelson (Doc) Collins at age 70, on January 17, 2011 in Labrador City, NL, with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Catherine (Cathy) Collins; dear father of John and Katie; loving grandfather of Katie, Brittney and Kyra; brother of Patsey Renondlt, Shirley Chaulk and Jackie Curtis; father-in-law to Heather and Carl Dumont (Katie's boyfriend); his dog Peanut; and many family members and a big circle of his friends, including Dr. A. Norman, and the Extended Stay Deluxe Hotel (A Home Away from Home). Doc moved to Labrador City, NL in 1962 and worked for 37-1/2 years for IOCC, member of SOAR Party and Lung Cancer Foundation. Doc's favourite activity was socializing and dancing with his beautiful wife Cathy. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and children, also watching movies, reading and walking his favourite dog Peanut. A beautiful wake was held at Penney's Funeral Home January 21 and a Funeral Service was held at Carol United Church, Labrador City on January 22.

Passed away suddenly on Monday January 31, 2011. Predeceased by his parents Tom & Cecile, wife Hattie and sisters Grace, Beulah and Dorothy (Amos). He will be sadly missed by his 7 children and their families: Carl (Gloria), Levi (Linda), Wayne (Eva), Edgar (Nora), Garry (Donna), Kirby (Kelly), Katrina (Rick); his 14 grandchildren: Jason (Josi), Greg, Rick (Sid), Jeff (Amy), Lindsay (Danny), Liza-Rae, Brittany, Faron, Brock, Gary-John, Lynn-Marie (Matt), David (Sheena), Andrew and Mackenzie; and his 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived and missed by his siblings: Elias (Myrtle), Norm (Violet, deceased), Abe (Shirley), Dinah (Stanley, deceased), Alma (Ron, deceased). He will be remembered as a hardworking, dedicated individual who brought passion to everything he did. He was a friend to all and a pillar of the community. Over the last several years in Labrador City, he devoted his time and energy in raising money to improve healthcare in Labrador West. To continue his dream and in lieu of flowers, we ask people to make donations to the Grenfell Foundation - Labrador West Chapter (or on-line www.lghealth.ca) in his honor. Burial took place in his birthplace, L'Anse au Clair, Labrador, on Friday February 4.
He will be sadly missed.

Robert Bruce Muir, age 64, of Wabush, NL, formerly of Scotsburn, Pictou County, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Health Science Center in St. John's, NL. He was the son of the late Gordon and Marion "Meme" (Greig) Muir. Robert grew up in Scotsburn, Pictou County and moved to Wabush, NL in 1975 where he worked at Scully Mines for 30 years before retiring in October 2008. He was a member of the Wabush Fire Dept. He enjoyed skiing and ski patrolling, fishing, golfing, curling, going to the cabin with friends, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his wife Joanne, son Rob (Anna), Halifax, NS, daughter Angela Coombs (Rick), grandson Samson, Torbay, NL; stepchildren Angela Moulton (Sheldon), stepgranddaughter Alyssa, Wabush, NL; stepdaughter Leslie Sullivan (Donald), stepgrandchildren Vanessa & Ethan, Brampton, ON; stepson Trevor Todd (Rosemary), stepsons Anthony & Colon, Ft. McMurray, AB. Robert is also survived by his brother Gary, Westville, NS; niece Lee Buckley (Shawn), great-nieces, nephew Greig & great-nephews. He will be greatly missed by all the friends he made in Labrador West since 1975. Everyone has fond memories of Robert (Bob) Muir. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Cremation was done in St. John's, NL. His family received visitors at Eagles Funeral Home, his service was held at the Scotsburn United Church with Reverend Shiela Redden-Smith officiating, interment was in the Bethel Cemetery in Scotsburn, NS. A Memorial Service was held January 26, 2011 at the Carol United Church, Labrador City with Reverend Betty Parrell officiating.

Herbert C. Rideout passed peacefully away at Capt Wm Jackman Memorial Hospital on January 8, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents George & Annie Rideout, brothers Agustus (Beatrice sister-in-law), Fred (Sophia sister-in-law), Alfred (Marie sister-in-law), Abraham, Gordon, Willis, brother-in-law Glenn Winsor, sister Theresa Seymour (Joe brother-in-law). Leaving to mourn: wife Lydia, son Junior (Stacey), daughter Louise (Paul) and grandson Noah, sister Evelyn Winsor and sister-in-law Bernice Rideout and Laura Rideout; also a large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral service was held at The Salvation Army Citadel in Labrador City on January 22, 2011. Officiating clergy were Captains Tim & Laura Jenkins. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Penney's Funeral Home, Labrador City.
