Description: Want info on ALCOCK ancestors from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, including my g-g-g-grandmother Elizabeth ALCOCK. Elizabeth was born about 1793 (prob. in H.G.)and died 20 Oct. 1844 in H.G. She may have been the daughter of Robert ALCOCK, who was listed as a merchant of H.G. when Elizabeth married Samuel JENKINS in H.G. on 27 May 1818. I have no info on her mother or other info on her father's birth, parents, etc. Samuel JENKINS was reportedly born in Bristol, England, and died in H.G.on 16 Oct. 1852.
Elizabeth and Samuel JENKINS had sons including: William, Thomas, John and Horatio, and a daughter Amelia JENKINS who married Frederic DEWITT (name later changed to WHITE) on 27 May 1846 in H.G. Frederic was reportedly from Prussia and jumped ship in NF. His birth date & place are unknown - he died between 1898 & 1904, probably in H.G.
My g-g-grandparents, Amelia & Frederic DEWITT (WHITE) had 7 children: Hannah, William, Emma, Samuel, Jessie, Leah & Amelia. My great-grandfather William married Rebecca EASTMAN on 11 April 1876 in St. John's.

I strongly suspect she was a sister to Frances Anderson who married Thomas MacDonald of Burgeo. Eleanor died in 1857 following the birth of her son Edward. Her son Edward was taken and raised by Frances and Thomas. They migrated to West Point and then Harrington Harbour, Que. The present day Ransoms of Quebec North Shore are of Edward.

Description: Looking for John (Jack) Andrews, born 17 Jan 1885, Crow Head, Twilingate, son of Thomas & Emma (nee Decker) Andrews. John was member of Newfoundland Naval Reserve. He was visiting German when hostilities broke out between Britian and Germany. He was jailed, but was released and joined the German Navy. His ship was sunk in the Jutland battle and John was rescued by a British ship. He was taken back to England and held as a pow. He convinced the jailers of who he was and where he was from and he was released. He then rejoined the British Navy and served out the war. He was last heard from during demobilization proceedings in St. John's in 1919? He never returned home.

This couple returned to St.John's where this couple's 2nd child female (Mary Bridget "Molly") born (04?) 14 Mar 1904 and 3rd child male (William Joseph "Bill") born 24 Nov 1905 both at St.John's. The couple and children all again emigrated to USA, Rumford, Maine where they settled before August 1907 and where the couple had 6 more children before Philip's early death at age 45 (some records give his age 39 or 41).
Philip (the younger) had a brother Daniel (bap 19 Aug 1866 St.John's RC Basilica, St.John's, NL but USA records usually list his birth year as 1877! d. 1936 buried Newton, Mass) He also emigrated to Boston area. Daniel married Annie POWER/S (b.?1877 d. 1940) also from St. John's. That couple had at least 5 (possibly 11) children in Newton/Needham,Mass,USA named: Daniel Joseph (1898), Mary Bridget (1899), Philip Henry (1901), Henrietta May (1902), and James Leo (1904/5). And also likely a George.
Philip (the younger) had a brother Joseph (bap 14 Apr 1874 St.Patrick's RC Church, St.John's, NL) who also emigrated to the Boston area (had also lived in Portland, Maine, where one child was born 1899 but returned to Newton/Needham/East Boston, Mass by August 1900). He married Mary BOGGAN? from St.John's. Couple had several children possbily 9, one of whom was a Florence, and possibly a William, among others. Joseph died before 1930, likely in Boston where his wife (widow) and children are listed in the 1930 US Census records.

viii. Thomas Henry APPLIN was born on 7 Sep 1878 and died on 6 Jun 1905 in Anchor Point, NF, at age 26. (He died from what sounds like getting septic after he suffered the gunshot wound to his arm) My records here indicate that there are other children from this marriage. There were three boys, I know one died but I need to go back to the records to see what happened to the other two. I have this info. In my rough notes because I hadn’t fitted this into our family tree yet as I was going back through directly and not spreading out with all the other relatives. They were:
1. William Applin - Born to Thomas and Mary - Gooseberry Island - June 1, 1900 and Baptized August 4, 1900
2. Joseph Applin - Thomas and Mary - August 6, 1901 and Baptized Nov. 10, 1901
3. Jane Applin - Thomas and Mary - Gooseberry Island - July 23, 1902
4. Emily Applin - Thomas and Mary - Gooseberry Island, St. Genevieve - August 7, 1903
5. Henry Thomas Applin - Henry Thomas and Mary Ann - March 22, 1905 (Died before he was received into the Church)
The names and dates are as they are recorded in thr church records at Flower’s Cove as that was the church headquarters for the entire coast at that time.
My records indicate that they (Henry Thomas and Mary) married on March 20, 1900.

Seeking information on ancestors of Robert Arroll (and variations including Arrall, Arol, Arrel, Erol, etc) and wife Susan McClellan. They lived in St. Johns, Newfoundland where they gave birth to their son Robert Jr (who I am calling Robert III) around 1859. Robert Sr (Robert II) may have been a baker at 44 Duckworth St in St. Johns in 1864 (or there is a slight possibility he may have died in Quebec in 1863, there is some confusion due to similar names). If he is not the one who died in Quebec, then he was born 1821 May 15 in St. John's to parents Robert (I) Arroll and Ann (surname unknown). I believe Robert (I) may have originated from Scotland, and (by name association) could possibly be from the line of people formerly known as Erols. Robert III ultimately moved to the U.S. (Newburyport Massachusetts) and fathered my great-grandfather. I would love to be able to connect the dots to my Scottish roots but have become stuck with the limits of early Newfoundland parish records. I also welcome communication from others connected to this line even if your research goes no further than mine, just for the sake of sharing the struggle, connecting with extended family, and learning about my family's history.
