Thanks Greg I appreciate it. It does help a little. Are you also related to one of the Dunphy families?

I am still searching for the right family. With other branches of my family I have found that searching as many families in the area with the same last name as the person you are searching for can be highly effective in providing clues and in using the power of the process of elimination. The only drawback of course is that it can be very time-consuming.

My great great great grandmother was Margaret Dunphy. She would have been born most likely between 1800 and 1810. She married Irish-born James Toole in 1829 in St. John's. At this time, my research had pointed me towards the southern shore communities of Renews and Tors Cove. Kathie if you have a Margaret Dunphy in your database I would appreciate the information.

Greg

kathie,
If you notice on the date of birth it does not say exactly 1837---it simply says Circa 1838,
which can mean anything between 1837 to beginning of 1839....so this could be your
Bartholomew and Mary Ann. As has been mentioned by many several times before, the
exacts dating of some births/deaths was not always kept up perfectly...there were many
mistakes in recording back then......My grandfather if you went by the census of 1930 and his age then should have been born in 1887/8 but he was actually born in 1884...so you sometimes just have to search to see which is correct.....sorry could not provide more accurate info.

Dunphy Bartholomew c1838-1912 #242 - " " "
Dunphy Mary Ann -1985 #245
