Does anyone know where one can find records of early court cases for St Johns? I am looking for the outcome of a case Crown vs Shea in 1904. I have contacted a website which has on line records but they are all recent ie 1980s onward; is there an archive for earlier cases?

Yes I'd like info on a trial too from 1923. This is all I could find but nothing on the outcome. "Anthony HAWCO, held for trial charged with the murder of Michael FEWER at Chapel's Cove on Sept. 2nd last, was committed by Judge Morris for trial before the Supreme Court at its next criminal session. The trail takes place next month."
Michael fewer was a gr.gr. uncle of mine.

I originally found my court case in a digitized image of an old NL newspaper. It is on the googld news site:

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=wu ... 20,1475672

The link above takes you to a newspaper dated 1814, but it gets you into the body of the newspapers and you can work your way around from there.

It takes a bit of time to work out how to navigate the site and choose the paper you are looking for (there are literally thousands); but as you have a date to work from, you could move forward a month and see if the trial was reported in the newspaper. As it was a murder trial, I would guess it would be in the papers.

Good hunting!

Hi, I followed a court case from back in 1907. King Vs. Sweeney and found all the information I need in The Evening Telegram ... newpaper transcription online I just typed in the two names involved and got a hit immediately. I hope that helps.
