Hello,

I've been poking at my family history for a while now; with some good luck. But i've recently gotten stumped on my Keeping line (My Grandfather).

Anyway I am at a point where I am trying to find information or go further back than
Thomas Keeping (b 1845) Harbour Breton
M: Elizabeth Craint (b 1844).
-->John Keeping (B: 1867) M: Charlotte Tibboe
-->Arthur Louis Keeping (B: 1910) M: Emily Ashford
-->Edward Lewis Keeping (B: 1933) M: Isabella Julia MacDonald
-->Christine Keeping (B:1956)
-->Me

I have been on FamilySearch and Ancestry as well as exercising the google muscles. I'm curious if anyone else is researching this line and may have additional insight or information.

Thanks.

Hi. I saw your query and found you on familysearch.org. I took the liberty of verifying and merging some existing sources that were on your tree. I have a Keeping in my tree as well lol. Many of the Keeping/Keepin Clan originates from Sagona Island but the closest port that received direct visit from Clergy was Harbor Breton so that is the most common place that the surname is registered. Google "Fortune Bay District Church of England Baptisums Volume 104" and there is a wealth of information that includes birth date and parents names and fathers vocation. I am almost certain I will find a connection to merge our families somewhere lol. Fortune Bay was not that big back in the 1800s and was compromised mainly of servants, orphans and "criminals" (political views were considered criminal among a host of other trivial things that could lead to exile from England's Providences).
