Hello, I am researching information regarding my grandfather's family; he was Frederick Clarke born 27 Aug 1892 in Brigus. He passed away on 27 May 1964 in Edinburgh. I believe his mother, Elizabeth, was a twin of Mary Lavinia Clarke, who were both born in Brigus in 1873. Many thanks in advance. Gail

Hello Gail,
My Father was Archie Clarke of Brigus. Born 1913 he talked about his Uncle Fred who lived in Edinburg. My father lived in Etobicoke. I remember going to visit Uncle Freds son who lived on Martin Grove...at least that is who I think we went to visit. I just went once with my Dad. There were no children there. Was that your Father?
I am sorry that I do not remember much but I think that there was a picture of him somewhere...my Dad passed away in 2007.
My Grandfather was Noah Clarke and his father was also Noah Clarke. My Grandmother was Lily Clarke. My Dad's family, sisters and brothers are all gone now. There is just one cousin Evelyn who lives in Brigus. I do believe that Uncle Fred was born out of wedlock and that an aunt may raised him..I know that my great grandfather Noah lived to be in his 90's as did my Father. Does any of this sound familiar?
Regards, Patricia Navarra (nee Clarke)

Dear Pat
Thanks for your emails.I think we are first cousins once removed! I have traced that my great grandfather and great great grandfather were both called Noah. My Dad was William. He passed away in Edinburgh in 2013 aged 74. He never lived in Canada. I think perhaps it was my Uncle Fred, my Dads eldest brother, you met when you were a child. I believe he emigrated to Canada in the 1950s. Would that have been when you met him? He is 93 now and living in the US, I believe. My grandfather Frederick had 5 children in Scotland and only my aunt Cath in Edinburgh and my said Uncle Fred are still alive. I have 2 sisters here in Edinburgh- Ruth who is 50 and Hazel who is 48. They both have 2 children. I'm 49 and have no family. I'm interested to hear we have another cousin Evelyn in Brigus. Who were her parents and how old would she be? Are you based in Newfoundland too? I have made it to Nova Scotia but Newfie is on my list. Do you know if Clarkes Beach near Brigus has any connection to our family? Best wishes Gail
