According to the parish records of Georgham, in Devon in the UK, Mary Perryman was born in Newfoundland and bought back to North Devon at the age of 2 and baptised in Georgham Church. I have personally examined these handwritten records in Barnstaple Library.

Her father was a Georgham man but as she was unbaptised on her arrival in the UK it is fair to assume her mother was not Christian.

The men of this part of Devon in the UK regularly went out to Newfoundland sailing from Bideford in Devon for the fishing. Many of the men stayed in the area and didn't return home at all.

Mary's father was Francis Perriman born in 1661 in Georgeham, Devon and like his brothers and father was a fisherman. It is clear he married or formed a relationship with a lady in Newfoundland and brought her back to the UK. Unfortunately I don't know her name - I wish I did.

I guess I have hit the proverbial brick wall with this line of my family and will never know anything about Mary's mother or her background but I am hoping someone might come up with an idea of what her race might have been.
