Looking for information on my Grandmother her name was Leah Rees married to John Rees. She dies very young, the names of her children that I know are Alex Rees, Marie Davis, Edna Rees, Dorthy Parsons and my mother Jean (Margaret) Clarke. I find info in the vital records of her and John, nothing of her children and nothing of her family name. I can't go any farther until I know her maiden name. After her death John remarried a widow named Pearl. I don't know her maiden name either. I may be too late asking my questions, most of what I know is from Belle Island. Leah was from the Kelligrews area, born august 19 1902. I have cousins on Bell Island who moved to Ontario and then back to Bell Island. I understand Bell Island is a very small place. Hoping someone can help me, I know it is only 2 generations but when the family is this old there is not much information. My Mother Jean Clarke married Herbert Clarke and moved to Ontario, I have a half sister Joy on my father's side. Born on Bell Island. A sister Elise and a brother Raymond both born on Bell Island. :D

While researching Tillers from Wesleyville area it brought my search to British Columbia. Found the following on Rees:

Solomon Tiller m Rhoda Maree Rees in Vancouver 23 Aug 1917
Stanley Tiller m Alice Mary Rees in Vancouver 06 Sep 1911

Perhaps this will link to your Rees family. I haven't been able to link to my Tiller family yet.

Above is a link to a WILL of George Kelly of Lance Cove near Kelligrews. In the 1921 Census Leah Rees of Bell Island is listed as born at Kelligrews. There are Kellys living at Lance Cove near Kelligrews. The odds are that Leah is of that family. If so then this will of George could be her grandfather. In the will dated 1897 George says he has claimed land for the past 70 yrs which means he came there from Ireland about 1827.
In 1898 Directory for Lance Cove near Kelligrews there are only (5) five Kelly's listed; John,William,Solomon, George sr. and George jr.

In George's will he list John and the late Solomon as his sons. He lists George and William Kelly as Grandson's. So it would seem that the KELLY'S of Lance Cove near Kelligrews are the same family. These Kelly's originated from County Kilkenny , Ireland.

Hope this is of some help.

Below are the Census records for Bell Island for 1921, 1935 and 1945. You will see that John and Leah are listed in the 1921 census as living in the same household as John's parents as she is listed as Daughter in law. They have no children as they married in May 1921. Leah passes away in 1931.

In the 1935 census John is listed with his new wife Pearl and 5 Children , 4 of which obviously from his first wife Leah and one by his new wife Pearl as per their ages in 1935 census.

In the 1945 Census John is listed as Edward J. instead of John, also with Pearl and 4 children.

As per the 1921 Census you now have John's parents names, i.e. Stephen born sept 1867 at Lance Cove and Mary J. born Jul 1869 at Freshwater.

Hope this is of some help to you. Good luck in your research.
