Hello,
I wanted to post a story on the birth of my mother, Shirley Emma Martha Stone.
It turns out that my Grandmother, Annie Florence Stone (nee. Reid) went in labor, so her father, Stedman Reid put her in his canoe and went up river on the Upper Humber River @ Junction Brook in Deer Lake, to take her to the Doctor in Corner Brook. The Doctor told Annie that it was false labor and sent her home again, so, on the way back home, again on the Humber River, in a canoe, poring down rain, mind you...my mother was born. My Mom's Grandmother had born her.
To this very day, my Mom is petrified of the water. I wonder, could it have anything to do with her birth? Shirley Emma Martha Stone was born Aug 25 1944, literally, on the Upper Humber River.

I was very fascinated with this story and wanted to share it. I hope you enjoyed it.

Marie King
