Hello,
My grandfather was born in Stephenville, NL in 1900. His mother (Alexandria) was from Germany, and his father was from Paris, France. I'm not sure what the last name was, but it changed to "Gordon" by the time my grandfather moved to New Brunswick. I've heard a few different versions of what it was before Gordon, such as "Godeau", "Godau", and "Gordeau".
Though my grandfather went by the name Paul, his first name was Hyacinthe (spelling?) and his middle name was actually Paul. I've been trying to find out where I might obtain or begin searching for birth records so I can find out
a) What our family name was before "Gordon"
b) What city in Germany his mother is from and where my grandfather's parents are buried
The only information I know for sure is that my grandfather had a brother named Joseph Gordon who is buried in Newfoundland, but that's about as much information as anyone in my family knows.
Does anyone know how I could go about finding this information out?
