thought I would try my luck again with this side:
never had much luck with it

trying to trace my GILLESPIE side:

My 3rd great-grandmother Anne Marie was born at Harbour Grace on January 5, 1821. And I don't know her parents' names.. She married Samuel PINSENT from Ochre Pit Cove, Conception Bay (b. 1820), son of Henry Pinsent. Anne Marie and Samuel moved to Cat Harbour, Bonavista Bay and they were married at Greenspond on September 13, 1843....

I had been told once that Anne Marie might have been from Bay de Verde, but I have discounted that - there were never any GILLESPIEs in Bay de Verde. The only lead that I have been following is that Anne Marie did name one of her sons "Thomas King Pinsent", so I had been looking for marriages between GILLESPIES and KINGs before 1820. GILLESPIE was also spelled GLASBY..But then again the KING could also been on the PINSENT side. I don't know the name of Samuel Pinsent's mother or any of his grandparents.....

These are two marriages that I have found between GILLESPIES/GLASBYs and KINGs in Harbour Grace...

(Anglican)
15 Nov 1808:
Alexander Gillaspie bachelor of Carbonear
Jane King spinster of Broad Cove
witnesses: William Penney, William King

(Roman Catholic)
Nov 27, 1820:
Will(m) GILLASBY m. Mary KING
witnesses: Felix McCARTHY & Ellinor McCARTHY

I do know the PINSENTS/GOODYEARS were Anglican, but I have no idea at all about the GILLESPIES....what religion they were....
I guess it's possible that the could have been Catholic.....

I also have never found Anne Marie's birth record.
Anne Marie and Samuel are the parents of my 2nd great-grandmother Mary Jane Pinsent b. 1856 Cat Harbour m. Albert Goodyear b. 1843 Cat Harbour, son of James Goodyear and Mary possibly WHELAN.. (Goodyears and Whelans also from Harbour Grace - Bryant's Cove area)

Thanks,
Ian Roberts

I think I can help you. Annie Gillespie is the daughter of Alexander (Nick) Gillespie and Jane King. After she married Samuel Pinsent, they moved to Ladle Cove. Annie died Dec.28, 1910 at 92. Her great granddaughter is my mother in law.
