McCormack/Lake families

I am looking for information about my great grandparents, James McCormack, b. 1843-? [lost at sea" c. 1880s], and Frances Lake McCormack (1843-1879). They were both born in St. John's and "walked" (according to family legend) to Boston in 1871 with two children, Frances Bridget (b. 1867) and James (b. 1869). Any information would be most welcome.
