My Grandfather Absalom Parsons was born in Bear's Cove, Harbour Grace in 1868 and "went to sea on the whalers at age 11". One story in the family is that he was "on the Bluenose Whalers"
I understand that there is a ship (replica?) based in Nova Scotia - Bluenose - but does anybody know of "Bluenose Whalers" operating out of Newfoundland in the 1870/80s? Was it a Company name? Any hints as to where to look for info would be much appreciated. He left the sea and settled in Liverpool England at the age of about 30 and married here. I remember as a kid the words " the whalers are in" being used here and there was definitely trade.
Many thanks
