Hi I am hoping that some one may help trace my 3rd great grandparents, Susanna and Elizabeth Mullens. (the spelling I have from UK Census, could be different).
Susanna was born in Newfoundland in 1808 and Elizabeth also born in Newfoundland in 1812. They both married men from Dorset in England, Susanna married Richard Hart, 20 June 1830 in Shillingstone, Dorset and Elizabeth married John Stacey, 11 June 1832 at Sturminster Newton, Dorset.
My question is, are Susanna and Elizabeth sisters? Where were they born in Newfoundland.
I know a lot of Dorset men signed on to fishing trips to Newfoundland waters from Poole in Dorset. Some as a supplement to agricultural work during autumn and winter. Did they meet the girls and bring them back to Dorset or did they make their own way over here?
The offspring of the 2 couples married and produced my great grandmother.
I would be so pleased if anyone can help with my research and the mystery surrounding two Newfoundland girls.
