My great-grand parents, "Anna" Clarke of Brigus, Newfoundland married Edwin Clarke of Charmouth, Dorset and St John's in the Brigus United Methodist Church on Sept. 28, 1877. They lived at 26 William St, St John's until Edwin died in 1911. Edwin's will left the house to "Anna".

"Anna" is in quotes because I can't find her. But I have a likely candidate: "Hannah" Clarke of Brigus. She was the daughter of George Clarke and Susannah Antel, and a younger sister of Isaac, who went by the name of Noah.

Isaac married his cousin, Mary Ann, daughter of William Clarke on Dec. 23, 1877. They moved to Toronto in 1889.
Our family history has “Anna/Hannah” and Edwin's youngest son, Samuel Clarke (my grandfather) moving to Toronto around 1904, and staying with his Uncle Isaac at 41 Olive Ave. Since Edwin had no brother Isaac, this had to be “Anna/Hannah's” brother. But, Isaac's sister was named “Hannah”.
That both Edwin and Isaac married Clarkes complicates things. So many Clarkes; so many repeated names. I have sought without success to prove that “Hannah” is “Anna” without her “haiches”.

Regards, Art
