I am looking for information on my grandmother’s older brother. Unfortunately I only have very few facts to go on. The facts are collected from available sources on the internet and an estate inventory from 1943. These sources are the parish register and the military recruiting register. The facts are the following.

Name: Anders Jensen Rasmussen
Occupation: Sailor
Nationality: Danish
Born: 28 September 1881 in Store Heddinge, Denmark
Parents: Hans Rasmussen and Karen Marie Olsen
Other facts and whereabouts:
- Discharge book dated 12 July 1899
- He never attended the examination of men liable for military service
- He absconded from the three-masted schooner ”Johannes” in Hull on 8 March 1902
- Shipmaster Oestermann did not demand him charged according to a letter from the Ministry of Justice dated 2 of May 1902
- He was heard from in 1906 having residence in Newfoundland (no precise place given)

Kind regards
JSV

Ok. Jorgen, I think that your Anders Jenson Rasmussen ended up in Brooklyn New York. It shows that he married Anna Rinck born in 1887 daughter of Franz Rinck and Anna Becker. They married in 1919 .In the marriage record it shows Hans Rasmussen father and Karen Marie Olsen as mother from Store Hendridge Denmark. There is a little town called Newfoundland NewJersey about an hour from Brooklyn New York???? Anders and Anna had one daughter Anna born 1925 Brooklyn . It shows that Anders died in 1974 Brooklyn 94 yrs old and his wife about 1958. Hope this helps.

Hi Doug
Thank you very much for your prompt reply. You have been most helpful.
I never thought of a place called Newfoundland in New York!
I suppose the records you mention are available on the internet?
Kind regards
Jorgen
